Am glad to be vegan.
i like protein.
It is a sad thing. But also unfortunately not a new thing. Back in High school - well directly after High school - late 70's - a friend of mine worked at a meat packing plant in South Saint Paul. A lot of crude things happened there as just a matter of course in a normal day. I think that the killing and processing day after day after day up to seven days a week working upwards of twelve hours a day adversely affects the psyche.
It takes a special kind of person to work at a place like that. Or a 'rendering plant.' I couldn't conceive of it myself. The smell alone was enough to discourage just about anyone not desperate for a job. We had to roof one once and you could smell it a half mile away. Saw some pretty eye-opening things there, too, for a teenager. I think I'd rather beg for a living.
Yep - an awful place to be - living north east of St. Paul if the wind was blowing right ( wrong - whew ) I could smell the yards though they were over 20 miles south of where I was.
I imagine it's a job that had to be done, but if you work in one long enough, you start smelling like one I hear. Might be a rumor, but I could see how it might permeate your skin. One of my first jobs was working with tear gas, putting it in those little aerosol cans and then charging the cans, and after working there a while, sometimes your sweat would vaguely smell like it.
Your Skin ( "our" skin - humanities skin ) is the largest organ of the body - it sweats out toxins but also intakes air - if the pores were blocked - even though breathing freely through mouth and nose - we would suffocate. The skin can also absorb poisons.
Yep, very true.
