Forum Post: money will destroy this movement.

Not from outside forces, but from within. It is reported that there may be close to 500 thousand dollars that has been donated to this cause. Though it is not clear who is accounting for this money what we do know is that it is distributed by consensus through the GA. The drummers have already put forth a request for 8000.00 but was rebuked for the request as it was not deemed to be of value to OWS. This displeased the drummers who have since threatened to take their drms and go home ( the neighbors would appreciate this). Eventually all the leaches will start asking for their share of the pie. Some will be approved, others denied and those denied will cry foul. It will be interesting to watch this unfold and the crys of corruption within to begin to resonate through the crowd. Have a nice day :-)

Money crated the movement.. why would the form admin change RON PAUL to "RON Lawl"

The drummers raised about $35k for OWS, someone sabatoged their drums during night and a rainstorm. IMO $8000 is too much for drums. (One destroyed drum was handmade and allegedly worth $5000 do they plan to replace it?)

Money can destroy money. I advocate writing "666isMONEY" on dollar bills.

if by their mere actions they raised 35k, then their actions are worth 35k, and they ought to be paid what they are worth.

not getting paid what people are worth is the very cause of all the problems we have among the poor in the US.

Who decides worth?

they raised 35k. are they not worth 35k?

this is completely objective.

if they were not around, OWS would be 35k poorer, would they not be?

how much will you pay for a dollar bill? a quarter? $100?

Then should they be paid 100% of 35k? Or how much should OWS profit from their actions? OWS as a corporation did nothing more than lend the name of the movement to the drummers which allowed the drummers( workers) to raise this money. OWS has no overhead so whatever they take is pure profit and they did not put any effort in to this fund raising.

exactly, very little of value came from the OWS name itself, hence the drummers should be paid close to 35k. i think they were being very generous to donate the amounts in excess of 8k.

Wow, you must be a 1%r. They need to go the the GA and demand payment.

Let me see if I understand this. The claim is that the drmmers brought in 35k to the movement and therefore deserve some sort of payout (after expenses of the materials is paid ( damaged drum)). They did bring value to OWS (the company) and deserve higher compensation than someone who is standing around holding a sign? Sounds like greedy capitalists to me.
