There never seems to be a "movement for the middle way" but it's what I believe in.

I want banks able to make a profit, but also more but not too much, regulation. I want industrial policy, some, but not too much. I want government to build infrastructure but then get out of the way (I think the internet was a perfect example of what I want).

I want LOTS of support for research in health, industry, agriculture, energy etc but then let the private market develop it. I want a financial sector where people can make money, but of smaller size and tighter bounds. I want taxes to support our government, but I don't want too much taxation. I think somewhere around 20% is the ideal. I don't want lots of ideology, I don't believe there is a "best form of Government", just a continuing struggle between too much and too little.

In short, I want what our founders wanted: "A balance of powers".

We are out of balance now, clearly, but it may be even worse to go too far the other way. I want to go to the middle.

Whether "conservatives" want to admit it or not, history is rife with movements that generally shift societal values to the left. I think most people would like to stay in the middle where life is cozy, but occasionally you have the "have's" in our society push us over the edge. Once that happens get out of the way! This movement will not stop until society has made a significant shift to the left. The momentum will be too great to stop.

Why don't you just say that you want the 1990s all over again.

And then it occurs to you, that we may or may not see that sort of long-term success anytime soon, but listening to these protesters will sure make things worse.
