This is what really is happening to medicare.

It's what a lack of effective regulation will do for programs that work.

I wonder how many of the laws that allow this to happen were penned by ALEC?

The people who like it are the people who are on it.

If somebody really wanted to fix it, they might ask the people who are in the program. Naaah !!!!

If Medicare cost $550 billion a year and covers 50 million people, straight math would put a national plan at over 3 Trillion a year to cover all 300+ million people.

Clearly the middle section would need less care than the young and the elderly.

Clearly you would get some economies of scale from growing 6xs it current size.

But also, you have to take the insurance aspect of Part B into effect, there are some added costs there if its raw universal based on this model.

So what is a good estimate of how much it would cost the government to insure 318 million people a year?

Also, how inflated is the $550 billion figure from a national healthplan attempting to work within the insurance racket to begin with?

"Keep the Government out of my Medicare!!!"

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

You forgot to add........." you morans".

These are the folks who gave us teabaggers.

After all, if y'all can talk good English, you must be a elitist.

Didn't even bother to send some of that money our way...

And you people think it's great to have "government run healthcare"

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

And you folks think it's better to be completely ripped off by phony corporations.

In fact the term " government run healthcare" is an erroneous term, dreamed up by republican and corporate propagandists.

You can look that one up, as it's true.

[-] 0 points by SteveKJR (-497) 12 years ago

Well then, if the government isn't running it, who is and why will we have to pay a "fee" to the government for coverage?

[-] 1 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

That's so the insurance corporations get paid, silly.

You know how they are. Golden parachutes, and all.

Why do you find it inconsequential, that they also rip off Medicare?

In a big way.

[-] 1 points by PandoraK (1678) 12 years ago

So many express opinions on subjects they own minimal information about...

Medicare is the largest group policy available today, the groups are regional, bids are accepted by insurance companies for coverage...companies including BC/BS, Metrolife, Workmen's Group...funny thing, the 'Medicare' statements always come in envelopes with return addresses which are not US Government.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Medicare is one of the corporatists favorite ways of ripping off the government and her people.

It would appear you didn't read the article, which is but one of the many.ways they do it.

Hell, ripping off medicare even bought a (R)epelican't governorship in Florida.

[-] 1 points by PandoraK (1678) 12 years ago

Oh, I know all about Medicare being ripped off, I also know of BC/BS and others being ripped off on a regular basis. Even small town USA has it's share of less than stellar citizens who will seize the main chance with little thought to the ethics or legality.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Who's been "ripping off" BC/BS, besides their own CEOs??

It's a non profit in name only, these days.

[-] 1 points by PandoraK (1678) 12 years ago

These days? LOL, Try over 30 years ago. I'd name the company but...I will say it was a small town in Minnesota, north eastern Minnesota.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

So these days, it's just the CEOs and shysters, ripping everything off.

I knew that.

[-] 1 points by PandoraK (1678) 12 years ago

Fraud, occurs at whatever level it's believed can be accomplished with the least chance of repercussion.

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

It happens at all levels, it's once again, the little guys that get caught.

The biggest frauds get elected Governor, and since it's medicare, we payed for it..

im for stealing from teh government, they have been stealing from us, and im tired of them being a consumer. if they want to be a consumer, let them try to generate their own funding like the rest of us.

Make sure yours is paid up before we couple again.

Medicare IS government regulated healthcare. Why does "effective" regulation always mean MORE regulation and government control. Every failure is met with the same thing: "If we only were bigger. If we only had more rules, then...."

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

Because if there isn't adequate regulations, A-holes like this rip it off, at our expense.

How did you miss that part?

[-] -1 points by DependentClass (19) 12 years ago

Funny how government can never quite get itself to "adequate". LOL. How about the A-holes in government that are persistently incompetent?

[-] 0 points by shoozTroll (17632) 12 years ago

AS to the persistently incompetent A-holes in government?

Throw all the teabaggers out, this election cycle.

They never where adequate.

[-] 0 points by DependentClass (19) 12 years ago

The fleabaggers have no answer, only more to be paid by someone other than themselves.
