America IS a Democracy. Would you rather see a Republic Army wade in and start shooting? These are mostly young people actually occupying. Sometimes change is not pretty, change makers are unkempt/unruly, but historically, they have helped to make the USA great. Our national history is built on changes brought by WE THE PEOPLE. These are messy, modern, "hippies" with the technology of the day. Look to the 1960's USA recent past for the last time many people took to the streets through-out the decade. This crop is doing the same thing. We have not seen this in decades. Ill-formed and disruptive issues aside - this is HISTORY being made. History is only tidy in hindsight. History cannot describe the smell of death. blood and bloated bodies of the US Civil War - seldom is the messier side and mistakes taught along with the main points of historical milestones in a classroom. You may not like these youngsters, but your great grandchildren will be taught about them in school.

MJT, This movement may appear to be lacking in "teeth", but it is still in an early stage. These are intelligent citizens and it can be seen in how they are conducting themselves at the many protests throughout the country. I believe that you are correct and it is my hope that forums like this can increase the amount of ideas that can be put into practice. More ideas equals more possibilities.

[-] 1 points by reaganite (100) 13 years ago

Actually you guys appear to be a frustrated, leaderless, pointless group of spoiled folks who are availing themselves of the rights granted by the people to get together and complain. You are a long way from making history.

[-] 1 points by MJT (138) from Phoenix, AZ 13 years ago

'Occupy Wall Street' is a cute puppy with no teeth! Why aren't you folks hosting a 'close your bank account' day?! Why not clog the arteries of the retail banks with thousands of people asking what their boss is doing about the liquidity problem?

If I could snatch my Fannie mortgage away from my current lender, I surely would do it. We use credit unions in this house. We don't use credit cards, just debit cards. I agree with you MJT, vote with your dollars and where you put them. My city took a $54K devaluation dump on assessing, the real estate market is down, we had our equity stolen virtually overnight to be upside down and stuck there since 2008. We cannot sell or refinance. We have excellent credit. We don't want to modify. That's the first door open to being foreclosed upon. We make our payments, never missed or been late since we bought in 2004. Until someone creates my ability to shake off BAC to switch to another lender, and that good payers have a right to refinance after being devaluated not due to our own mistakes ... I am looking for that bolt-hole in any "over, under, sideways, down" to speak with our biggest assets and walk our mortgage out of BAC. There's no APP for that! :P

The United States is not a democracy; it is a republic.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

And it is a Banana Republic at this juncture. We can do better. We are a YOUNG country compared to those societies that are still existing thousands of years later. We have room to grow and make our country stronger. What's the matter with having an ideal? It may tank badly, but, it's more than most have had efficacy with of late. Just for commenting and joining the threads here to banter makes you a PART of OCCUPY. LOL - kinda ironic that the web hit numbers will be used to feed the polls showing OWS is growing it's base. Wheeeeeeeeeeee

[-] 1 points by RightWingReactionary (74) 13 years ago

We can do better. That's why I'm voting for Ron Paul.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

Such is your right. I may go Mitt. So many candidates, yet, not enough choice with the current crop as far as my needs go.I don't know if I will be red or blue. I know my ticket will be split as I see fit. In the meantime, I am not really happy that the campaign is running with seated representatives NOT doing their jobs, but campaigning 14 months out. Who's doing their job while they are distracted by their bid for President.

[-] 1 points by zowhatian (31) 13 years ago

How do people not understand that a republic is a representative democracy? We are a republic, ergo we are a representative democracy, ergo we are a democracy. The terms are not mutually exclusive.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

For purpose of discussion, give Republic title, and worry about semantics later. Talk now, not nit pick. This is endemic of DC. You gonna emulate that model?

[-] 1 points by zowhatian (31) 13 years ago

How's taking that higher road worked out for you?

[-] 1 points by RightWingReactionary (74) 13 years ago

Yes, a REPRESENTATIVE democracy. You can't omit that adjective.

[-] 1 points by zowhatian (31) 13 years ago

Except naturally in the case of our presidential elections where the entire purpose of the electoral college has been negated over time and it's turned into an unnamed hodgepodge of direct democracy and clusterfuck.

Also, saying "The United States is a democracy" is a valid statement even without the adjective "representative." Saying "The United States is not a democracy" is invalid. You're the one who needs the adjective, and you should be saying, "The United States is not a direct democracy."

[-] 1 points by RightWingReactionary (74) 13 years ago

Fair enough.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

Nicely talked through Zow n Right. That's the way to get forward motion going by trading ideas and not being afraid to inform each other. WTG

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

It started as a constitutionally limited republic. The problem was, the constitution got in the way of everyone who wanted goodies, so they ignored it.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

Are you in Waco, TX?

"Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and not for the profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, the people alone have an incontestible, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness require it." John Adams 1776

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

Well quoted - and spelled!

[-] 1 points by JeffBlock2012 (272) 13 years ago

spelling counts? I think "incontestible" should be "incontestable"

p.s. I'm from Cranston

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

LOL, my spell check did not tag you, so it must be okydoke & Howdy Neighbor. Come help out Warwick Car Tax issue for wetting your political appetite to run. Avedisian is caught pooping where he's been eating. Not a new allegation, now, it's been verified. I haven't lived in RI since 1976, but my Mom is in Warwick, Sister in Cranston, and another Sister in Bristol. I live in Milledgeville Georgia.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

Did your Ma show you her 2011/2012 excise tax bill? Tripled in 3 years. We were evaluated by a badly constructed code change. Our cars are 2003, 2007. Warwick came up with the A.E.T. bill to each home owner by using NADA, Private Sale, EXCELLENT condition of our Vins. Obscene. When people wanted to confront the Mayor and Council, the administrators so badly over reacted that they let slip a bigger debacle than the A.E.T. issue we raised - which is that the city had declared our budget $3.6 million in the red. So they based their structure and taxes upon that figure. Just this last week, it was found that the REAL deficit was $900K. So, these Prats in this conversation thread who are throwing poop on the walls as their form of communication - don't get why I cheer on Occupy.

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

I look at the 1960's and the absolute havoc those ideas have wreaked upon society. Then I look at what OWS wants and I go down to the local gun store and stock up on ammunition.

[-] 1 points by doingsomething (50) from Raeford, NC 13 years ago

Was that you? You got the last box of 45 ammo.

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

Yeah. Sorry. I have a few extra boxes of 45 I'd trade for some 2 3/4" Federal 00 Buck. Its probably going to get very up close and personal if these guys actually try to get what they want.

[-] 1 points by doingsomething (50) from Raeford, NC 13 years ago

I think the dogs will run them off. Hell, the rabbits will probably scare em.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

How clever of you - the Doody in your name speaks my best manners reply to your comment.

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

You sir, are a gentleman of the highest order.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

WOMAN, age 50. Mother. Tax Payer. Voter. Doody & DoingSomething - do you understand the interwebs at all? IF there is bloodshed, this forum provides local, state and federal law to track your ISP and book you to interrogate/charge if found to be connected to assault or death. You are sitting far removed, feeling clever. You are talking about TAKING A LIFE because you are not standing in front of a protester to say it to their faces. X-Box 360 has diminished your basic compassion. You can dislike something WITHOUT talk of decimating whatever you don't like.

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

Nah. Unlike the protesters, sir, I am AGAINST the initiation of force. I will defend myself and my rights but I'm not going to point a gun at anyone and try to get them to give me goodies. Sir, that is the difference between you and me. When I want something I go out and work for it. I don't try to violate someone else's property rights by using the government as an intermediary. What is earned money anyway? For me, at least, I have to WORK to get money. So if you decide you want to take my money or have the government take it on your behalf, you are forcing me to work for you. Slavery. If you guys, you included sir, try to get what you want by force, I will defend myself. There is NO moral equivalence between our positions. You are wrong for initiating force, period.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

I am not a SIR, I am a MAAM. We work here, we pay taxes, we file taxes, we live within our means, we believe no one rides for free - and we try to earn refunds when possible. We work 15-17 hour days. No one is initiating force, Doody. You are good at initiating FARCE in your conversation with me. Doingsomething, if you cannot articulate at least the minimal that Doody did, don't bother.

[-] 1 points by doingsomething (50) from Raeford, NC 13 years ago

Did I articulate too well for you?

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

No, not so much.

[-] 1 points by doingsomething (50) from Raeford, NC 13 years ago

Sorry Mom, I'll try to do better.

[-] 1 points by doingsomething (50) from Raeford, NC 13 years ago

Very well. In the first place this is not an episode of law and order. If someone gets booked for interrogation let's start with the xbox users you referred to, an incredible amount of threats of violence there everyday. I haven't heard of any mass interrogations going on about that. In the second place you begin this post with violence.. the following was in your initial post.."the smell of death. blood and bloated bodies" I can certainly take that as a threat. I have read several posts on this site that list methods of making weapons for the people at the protests. You may be peaceful but I don't think everyone at these protests are. I hope they are but when people start yelling revolution I begin to get worried and I am not in the 1% but I may get run over by people trying to get to them.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

I referred to the AT THE TIME real circumstance of war conditions during the Civil War, DoingS. X-Box has 'an enforcement team' harder to reach, no, impossible to reach whereas, it is easier to contact the White House. (You own the white house). X-Box TOS is enforced and there IS too much violence and ugly people on it. Agreed. YOU AND DOODY brought your guns to the thread. I pointed out that speaking as such, IF violence were to erupt upon Occupiers in any location - people like you and DOODY would be looked up for your statements here in THIS FORUM or any other - to get to you through your ISP. And then, yes, Federal law permits them questioning you without Miranda or anything else your local authorities would allow. I asked you NOT to engage in the talk of bringing your guns to OWS as you "jokingly" communicated the mind cartoon for you and DOODY to converse. AND - good for you, DoingSomething for being well spoken to make your points. At this juncture, we an agree to disagree. You were not just lobbing stupid comments, you made a statement.

[-] 1 points by doingsomething (50) from Raeford, NC 13 years ago

Thanks for the time. By the way, I welcome any federal law enforcement to my home, I see many of them every week.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

You are all set then.

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

Sir, what the protesters want to do is initiate force against me, take my private property, and give it to someone more "deserving" than the person who earned it (me). So I am merely pointing out that we know what you want and we are arming ourselves to defend against you. When you come, we will be ready. It won't be us who initiates force because we don't want anything we didn't earn.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

Okay Uncle Ted, I hunt n fish too. I have the right to bare/bear and have bare arms. Still, I am a woman, and you address me as SIR. Not even DoingSomething is cheering your posts any more. You have no IDEA what I want, Doody, you are speaking through your namesake. Stay on your cult compound with your barbed wire. It's okay. Stand down soldier. Oh, and by the way - HAVE YOU SERVED YOUR COUNTRY in the last ten years? I have loved ones fighting for you to be such a Doody!

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

Oh no. You're thinking of it all wrong. There is no way I would ever be a lone wolf. I'm part of a HUGE network of people with specific skills who will be able to get together and be able to defend ourselves. If you aren't part of a network you're not going to survive if shit hits the fan. Its funny because OWS doesn't even seem to be able to clean up its own garbage. LOL! How do they think they are going to run a society? Once again, Sir, thank you for your kind responses.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

I wrote about the hygiene issues, garbage making and abuse of small business owners on Occupied camps. You missed that. A lot of people are in walled cults like you. There is no Mad Maxx post nuclear society - so if someone pushes the button, you may be protected to live, but your kids will have serious birth defects. Especially if the baseline gene pool has you sharing your DNA. :/

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

LULZ. Love it. Keep up the good work sir. It looks like your efforts to keep the place clean are working out great. Too bad its a bunch of entitled ne'er-do-wells down there who are just present to get some pot and get laid. I hope you can at least get some poontang out of this. Peace brother.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

Peace Sistah Doody.

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

Sir, again, if you are FOR the redistribution of wealth like the OWS, then you are FOR the initiation of force to accomplish that end. Its a little different this time in history sir. This time we are NAMING what you want and how you will get it.

[-] 1 points by doingsomething (50) from Raeford, NC 13 years ago

Exactly, wish I could say it better.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

I wish you had a point.

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

The point is, sir, we will defend ourselves against you this time. We know what your game is.

[-] 1 points by sJm02889 (44) from Warwick, RI 13 years ago

Now you are just too silly for me to talk to. I will stick with my first response. With a name like DOODY, you really are off to a bad start.

[-] 1 points by captaindoody (339) from Elizabethville, PA 13 years ago

Thank you sir, you are a true gentleman.
