Those countries are doing ok - Germany is one of the biggest exporters in the world and Australia's unemployment rate is only 5.7%. Many great companies are based in these countries and a lot of rich people choose to live there.

How do they do it? Germany seems to have a good education structure (they emphasize vocational skills) and export strategy (exports are taxed very little). Why can't we copy off of those countries instead of trying to adopt the same wages as China and Vietnam?

By the way Republicans will call these countries 'Socialist' but communist-like countries don't build Mercades and Porsches.

If you think Germany is doing OK, I have a piece of the Brooklyn Bridge to sell you. It's called the European Sovereign Debt Crisis. And I just got word of this today

Market Slumps After European Banks Admit They Can't/Won't Raise Capital; Will Proceed With Asset Liquidations Instead

Connect that with an article I wrote two days ago here

And honestly, I wouldn't look to Germany as an ideal place for much longer. Hell, reportedly Germany's printing deutschmarks again.

These countries watch the USA and do the opposite.

I know this for a fact since i'm german, germans have culture, they are loosing it, but it is one of spending time with family. eating good local foods, and taking time out to enjoy life, so when they go back to work we are VERY productive, and we take pride in our work, unlike most workers here in usa

Does anybody else think we should adopt some of Germany's policies?

Our Country is doing 'ok' as well. It's always easy to claim that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. Germany is busy bailing out all their neighboring countries, due to 'European Economics' in other words, entitlement programs that plague their countries.

The only reason our country is not doing better than 'ok' is that there are many individuals who feel that they are entitled... that it is their right, to have a good paying job, to have free and unlimited healthcare, to be able to steal other's hard earned money.

Our country is not doing 'ok'. We have almost 0% growth in our economy, while many other nations (China, Thailand, Turkey) are growing at 8%. We also have no national economic strategy. If we do have a strategy it is to blindly follow free trade until every factory and business is on the level playing field of Laos and Myanmar. Germany, Australia, Canada practice free trade but they use it to their advantage. Their companies succeed and their people become rich. Australia has a higher GDP per capita than we do.

Agree completely. The top ten most prosperous countries all have some facets of that scary "socialism" but are First World, "free" western countries - except the USA and we are ranked tenth.

USA is less free and capitalistic than all countries listed here.

In that case we need far less illegal immigrant felons.

Germany has a ton of African immigrants and Canada is an immigrant nation like the US is.
