It's called American Constitutional Democracy. If my Senator's vote doesn't count then my vote doesn't count.

We live in a republic. Specifically it is a constitutional representative republic.

We do not live in a democracy. We have never lived in a democracy.

An actual democracy is little more than a fancy term for mob rule. This country will never be governed by mob rule.

Majority rule - yes or no.

Majority rule in what sense? Passing a vote in Congress?

[-] 1 points by Ptfrank (8) 12 years ago

At least

No. The majority should not rule. A republic is more desirable.

Ok, you're on. Get rid of the plutarchy and give me a representative republic where at least my Senator's vote counts as much as Jim DeMint's.

Or how about in this prefrerred republic we get to the point where at least a bill or nominee can have an up or down vote so that my representative's vote is equal to yours.

That's not the problem. Even if you replaced a representative that is corrupted with an honest one, the honest one would soon become corrupted himself. Furthermore, I'm not interested in worrying about voting left and right, and I don't think the vote of a simple citizen should be worth as much as the vote of a senator.

The problem lies in bad laws which allow corruption. We need scholars to look at the laws and find all the loopholes that allow corruption. Then we need to fix those laws and get a comity of people to make sure these laws are respected. Money must be separated from politics, and senators must be chosen in a wise way, and there must be no way for them to become corrupt. Once that's done, you won't have to be looking over your shoulder at each instant because you are worried corrupted politicians are ruining your country. You'll be able to get on with your life.

Fine on the intellect. Now show me the will.

I was hoping Americans would start working on this. Do I have to do everything? Why do Canadians always have to come and save the day down in US?

Be careful what you wish for. The majority of women might just decide to enslave the minority of men.

They already do...
