Not tolling but how do people who are serious debt afford macbooks and iphones? I make a ton of money and have no debt and cant afford them. I only ask this because tons of my coworks joke about this all day and it seems to take away credibly from people who claim to be on hard times posting from a 2500 dollar toy.

Because some people bought them before they lost their jobs, and some of us aren't poor, some of us are well off financially but can see where this country and what it is doing to others and are here to help. (I hate Apple btw, just giving you a straight answer)

2500 dollars could save starving peoples lives and some people toss it around like it is play money. Half of America is the worlds 1% that refuses to help. People die every day for starvation and Americans are complaining that they are only getting paid $10 and hour. That is 9.5 more than most the world will ever earn.

This is true. However, we are not perfect. There are those in our own country that are starving, we must help them first. I agree, that it is a lot of money to waste on something so mediocre, but they had the money to do so. While yes, people need help, they don't all need handouts.

"I agree, that it is a lot of money to waste on something so mediocre, but they had the money to do so."

Isnt this the exact thing we are fighting against from the top 1%?

No? We are trying to stop them from abusing their power and wealth to subvert our rights and our constitution. I couldn't care less if they went out and bought macbooks and yachts. I encourage them to! It helps our economy and gives me something to go "ohhhh that would be nice to have" While I work my way to the top too.

We do not dislike all rich people, just those that abuse their power and wealth.

Funny you say this, I currently work in a doctor's office and we had a woman come in the other day who "needed" a procedure done (this was an aesthetic procedure... definitely not needed), but she couldn't afford it because she has 6 children... so she asked, "Can you give me a discount?!"

hmmm...

FYI: In many schools you are obligated to have a computer, and Apple gives good discounts for students. Remember a lot of these people fully expected that after their 4 years of college they would be able to get a good paying job and pay off their loans. It is with that in mind that they purchased the necessary tools to get their education.

But the economy collapsed in large part because of Wall St irresponsibility, not because of the students. So yeah, they're out there, they're angry, and they're slinging Macbooks. Is that a problem?

"Good Deals" Lolll. $100 off a $1300 laptop made with parts that cost them about $200 - $400 (at most) to make is not a "good deal"

I think some of you believe that the people you see in the wearethe99percent tumblr are the same people who are in the park.

[-] 1 points by beefybear (27) from Eagleswood, NJ 13 years ago

please explain more, i dont understand

[-] 1 points by thebeastchasingitstail (1912) 13 years ago

Just because you see protestors in the park with Macbooks doesn't mean they are also the ones who are in serious debt.

The protestors are talking about problems that exist in our country today, it doesn't mean they themselves are experiencing those problems.

Credit cards....although alot of people have some serious cash.

[-] 1 points by beefybear (27) from Eagleswood, NJ 13 years ago

why though. If I ow 40K in debt why not buy a cheap computer? Or a cheap phone. I wonder how many of the 1% own 2500 dollar laptops.

I live in a fairytale suburb and EVERYBODY has them, and BMWs and Mercedes and....well you get the point. Many don't even see that people are suffering at all. Its amazing but people around me are still buying stuff like this and they don't even feel guilty about it - flashback to the depression and what the wealthy back then did - wear white clothes at their spas and summer homes on the coast etc. The more things change the more they stay the same....

Because we were tricked by the corporations into spending money on credit to buy one. They use propaganda to keep us perpetually in debt

[-] 1 points by entrepreneur99 (114) from Los Angeles, CA 13 years ago

Seriously? grow a spine man. If you can't afford it don't buy it. Jeez.

I support OWS for its "money out of politics" message, not for this.

I wasn't tricked - I was absolutely entranced by the gleaming sex of my iPhone. Sorry I had to admit it. Now I am paying for it - lmao.

Or you could just say people were uneducated about their options and the consequences.
