- ending war, 2.stopping bailouts, 3.ending lobbying, 4.prosecuting banking fraud, 5.re-pealing patriot act and re-establish civil liberties,
- end the fed, 7.stop supporting dictators.
I hope that this movement does not fall into the trap of trying to abolish capitalism. We must focus on overlap issues that everyone can agree upon, like the ones listed above. Only the noe-cons will disagree with them. There is a strong movement on the right that agrees with all of the above demands. We should not alienate them by going overboard and demanding a socialist, or very socialist leaning state. The real problem is not capitalism, or government, but corporatism- the corrupt mixing the the two.
This is not a list that all of us can agree with. I, for one, don't agree with all of them. Specifically:
stopping bailouts: I think it's imperative that the government bailout homeowners who now owe more to the banks than their house is worth; I think it's imperative that the government bailout the states, which are being forced to lay off workers when unemployment is already way too high; and, yes, I believe that it's imperative that the government bailout those major financial institutions that are essential to the health and stability of our economy. Bankers should be held accountable for their crimes and the markets need to be regulated, but the financial system cannot be allowed to collapse.
ending lobbying: I strongly disagree. I support the lobbying efforts of the ACLU, Human Rights Campaign, unions, environmental groups, and many other organizations. However, I do agree that campaign financing must be regulated.
end the fed. I strongly disagree. The fed is a major financial institution that is essential to the health and stability of our economy. If the Fed were "ended", the financial system would collapse, and then we'd see unemployment shoot up from 9% to 90%. That's not something I can support.
I do agree that we must end these wars, prosecute banking fraud, repeal the patriot act and re-establish civil liberties, and stop supporting dictators.
My preferred list of demands, though, is the following: HOLD WALL STREET ACCOUNTABLE. Tax the rich. Regulate markets. Prosecute white-collar crime.
That's a readily-comprehensible program even the MSM can understand.
We need to own capitalism and seize Wall Street, to make it do what we need: http://paulglover.org/1110.html
Most important demand: Reinstate Glass Steagall separation of banks from investment/trading firms and the latter should have NO FDIC protection. Repeal Gramm-Leach-Bliley act! Ask Paul Volker for help - this is what he has been advocating. ALL OCCUPY PROTESTS SHOULD FOCUS ON THIS ONE DEMAND! It will make a huge difference for the industry and the economy!
4a. Try them for Treason Against America....and hang them on Wall Street for all the other thieves to see.
Actually a good list, good to see some sense out there. Try adding sound money to the list as well. America has not had capitalism since 1913, when it replaced capital with debt. What you see now is a most hideous corruption. Listen to those who warned of this day- Ron Paul and the Austrian free market economists. http://mises.org/
I wish we could.
8.end corporate personhood, 9.make corporations responsible for the crimes they commit - they MUST be held accountable like all of US.
I think you formated the list incorrectly. Sounds pretty good though
Get the money out of politics and we might have a chance
Here is a list of demands that over 200 people have commented on that I think would actually work https://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed-list-of-demands-please-help-editadd-so-th/
Love them. GET DOWN TO WALL STREET AND MAKE THIS CLEAR TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY! Sorry for the caps, but that's the most important thing you could possibly do.
@kestrel, that's what makes them so good. Even the TP can agree with us.
Actually items 2, 3,4,6 and 7 are all neo-con positions that are the same that the tea party wants. Add getting their financial act together and you have the tea party platform.
