The greedy idiots on Wall Street are destroying us all. In addition to publicly financed elections, limiting income to 2 million per year like we did in the 1950's would solve a lot of our problems.

30 years from now, people could say, "Yeah, back in the early 2000's, people didn't limit income to 2 million dollars. The unchecked greed meant that corporations bought elections and raped the earth, rich people never felt rich because they didn't know they would always compare themselves with those who had more, and CEO's made 300 times what their employees made despite not being socially productive it all! People were starving in the midst of plenty, the infrastructure was crumbling, we were in a depression...it was terrible!"

Here's to dreaming of a better world.

Yep and put taxes back in the 50% range as they were.

Good idea. Sometime the old solutions still work.

Bring back charter renewal for corporations and they will have to demonstrate that they are an asset to society.

Micromanagement does not work.

Bringing down the pyramid of corruption is about 180 degrees from being that simple. Do you really think you could convince the people in power to limit their own salaries? Harry Reid made over $2M last year alone just in lobbyist gifts.

Here's to dreaming that stupid answers to real problems will stop on this forum.

Can we please stop with all the tax hike ideas? I feel we don't need to give our leaders more money to waste. I recommend lowering spending instead while keeping taxes flat until we have a balanced budget, then lower both taxes and spending together to keep the balanced budget while lowering everybody's tax burden.

Yes! Finally some sense!

Oh yeah, the gun and confiscation will fix everything.

You fuckin #$%^*.

That gun will end up pointed at you!

Just eliminate limitation of liability for shareholders, and stop the Fed from printing money.

Problem solved, no guns, no fucking commies running everything.

C'mon, don't call anyone a tool. That's not helpful.

[-] 1 points by HankRearden (476) 13 years ago

Ah, OK.

Advocating forceful confiscation is .... repugnant.

There, I fixed it.

[-] 1 points by GammaPoint (400) from Oakland, CA 13 years ago

Limiting income to $2M per year is not forceful confiscation. It's a wage control to limit excessive bargaining power gained due to the imperfect competition that exists in the marketplace.

[-] 1 points by HankRearden (476) 13 years ago

It takes thugs with guns to do that.

[-] 1 points by GammaPoint (400) from Oakland, CA 13 years ago

It doesn't take any more thugs with guns than we already have. The thugs with guns will always be around most likely; it's whether they'll support economic justice or not which is up for debate.

[-] 2 points by HankRearden (476) 13 years ago

I do not and will never advocate thugs with guns stealing money from people.

If something like this passes, next it will be $50K, then $20K. Once you surrender the principle, you surrender it 100%, then you're owned.

Another way of thinking of it is the old joke, "Say, if I had a million dollars cash right here, would you sleep with me if I gave it to you?" "Well, I guess maybe." "OK, now that we've established you're a whore, let's negotiate on price, OK?"

Thugs with guns will never support economic justice. They will support themselves. C'mon, isn't history clear on this?

I'd rather see it fixed so people can earn all they are able to, and keep it. As long as they earn it honestly.

So you don't believe in taxes at all I guess?

[-] 1 points by HankRearden (476) 13 years ago

Not as presently instituted, no.

Imperfect perfection... ie you have to have money to make money, or be really lucky. Either one means u r in the top 1%.
