TRIPOLI (The Borowitz Report) – As arrests mounted in the Occupy Wall Street protest in New York City, Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC) issued a stern statement today warning the NYPD to exercise restraint.
“The Libyan transitional government regards any attempt to infringe upon the American protesters’ right to express themselves as a violation of international standards of free speech and liberty,” the Libyan statement read. “We will not sit idly by and watch this happen.”
Libyan government officials also hinted that if the arrests continue, it would consider forming a NATO coalition “to ensure the safety and security of the American people.”
Simply awesome. We appreciate the support, and offer it in kind.
Amazing thx to the Libyan people
All Countries in the world should recall there ambassador in the US if they keep denying US citizen there basic rights
LOL. Awesome.
It is political satire, but it is nevertheless interesting.
Fail! There is no Libyan government since Sirte has not fallen yet. A month after Sirte falls, a temporary government will be formed. If you want to troll, they do a least your homework.
National Transitional Council is acting as de facto government, as you are obviously aware. Reporting events is not trolling. Look it up.
They are not governing. Not making new laws, building miniseries or even built out international contacts until Sirte falls. I don't have to look it up: I actually work in this area. Now, I would be very interested to know what is your source for your statement that they "..will not sit idly by and watch this happen.'
As stated in the post, this was reported by the Borowitz report, I agree that the title is somewhat misleading. Here's the link, currently front page so it could fail later: http://www.borowitzreport.com/ Apparently the quotation you refer to is in the statement as issued by the NTC.
Andy Borowitz (born January 4, 1958) is a comedian and satirist http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Borowitz This would be the same as quoting The Daily Union as a reliable reference
The African Union rejected a motion to recognize the National Transitional Council. At least someone had the decency to do so since it is mostly composed of al-Qaeda fighters.
Fail again
