Dear Police Forces of the World,

On October 15th, 2011, you and your fellow police officers will be deployed alongside a massive collection of civilians standing up together against economic injustice. We the 99% have some things to ask of you, specifically as law enforcers.

On October 15th and after, we ask you not to be like the Egyptian police under Mubarak. We understand that arrests will occur. Some people will break laws, but we ask that you act primarily so as to uphold everyone’s rights, and protect all of our freedoms. Please, do not hurt innocent people, and more importantly, do not let your fellow officers hurt innocent people: that is as much a crime as any other. If you see your fellow police officers assaulting civilians, please, do your job: arrest them on the spot. You know it’s the right thing to do.

We understand that you will enforce the law, as that is your job. We ask you to simply do your job with excellence: please enforce all the laws. In the days, months, and decades to come, please insist on prosecuting economic and environmental criminals, even if you think “it must be someone else’s job.”

Police forces of the world: you share our interests, our needs, our pay scales, and no doubt much of our anger about the economic injustice this world is facing. Please remember: that means you are the 99%. But you have something that the rest of us don’t: the uniform. You are our designated protectors, our would-be heros. So we ask you, as our protectors, as our heros: please don’t hurt us, don’t let fellow officers hurt us, and don’t let the economic and environmental criminals who have already hurt us all go free.

Please don’t shield economic criminals. Please protect us all. Please be our heros.

Sincerely,

The 99%.

Please post, print, and pass this along to the police officers around you.

I think it is incredibly important to get something like this out into the hands of police, and I like this letter's tone and messaging. Please read, rewrite, and pass along whenever and wherever appropriate.
