Let's make the politicians that got us in this mess pay taxes on their campaign donations. This would level the playing field for a new challenger (s), and raise some revenues for the government. Here's how it would work:

Any amount of funding raised by the incumbent, that exceeds the funds raise by the new challenger (s), would be taxed at a 75% tax rate.
