I've seen emails similar to this over the years, more recently in the last few years. Thing is the idea makes a lot of common sense and seems it should be or at least I thought was the core idea behind our county and constitution. So why has it not happened? As I said, I have seen emails similar to this in the past, this one does seem a little more specific but still the same general idea. What is stopping it from happening? Reading through this it seems to me that maybe a larger portion of the "1%" are our own government leaders, though I could be wrong. Another email I've seen a lot also states, a democracy only last until people realize they can vote money out of the state treasury, again this email details those atrocities nicely. I do though always question; what other democracy besides the US and Athens, hmm, maybe my history books were missing some pages? Non the less, this email spells out a way to avoid that supposed fact about a democracy but it will take the "people" as a whole to over come the barriers that have been placed by the 1% that currently seem to rule this assumed democracy. So I turn now to the "Occupy" movement having no general consensuses, maybe if what I just wrote can make it to those in this movement then maybe this could be their consensus. Seems to me to hit their current voiced agenda, "Occupy Wall street" and those that have followed were about the greed of the rich and powerful in this country. Least we forget, who wanted us to bale who out, and it seem to me this was from both "parties"; so who got bailed and who got left in the dirt? The American people it would seem. Our rich powerful government officials bailed out their rich and powerful friends on Wall Street, the motor companies and the banks. Personally, I would have let them sink and invested the money wasted on them into the American people, some how, any way, payed out the money for infrastructure improvements creating jobs or something to that affect, not bailing out a bunch of greedy rich conniving bastards.
I'm done with my words, now is time for more action, push, spread the idea further, make it happen America!
An interesting idea. Could we get this to happen, or something close to it? A message from Warren Buffet:
"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land - all because of public pressure. Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people and ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. Congressional Reform Act of 2011
- No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.
- Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
- Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
- Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
- Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.
- Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
- All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congressmen/women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Don't you think it's time? THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS! If you agree with the above, pass it on.
