People, we need to protest Microsoft and all their software, just look at how much money Microsoft charges for their Windows operating system, take Windows 7 for an example in best buy if I were to purchase Windows 7 Professional for one computer it would cost $456.59, Windows 7 Ultimate Edition for 1 PC $4,302.99 (YES!! for ONE PC), now the version that you most likely be buying, Windows 7 Home Premium currently costs $199 .99 (not the UPGRADE, the Full version, the one that you will need if you build a ew PC or change the hard drive of your current PC and have nothing to "Upgrade" from. While Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Student Ed. costs $149.99 you can't use it for your business, what ever business you might have, even if its a small home based business, for that you need Microsoft Office "Home and Business" edition for a whopping $199.99 and if you required special "professional" features, you can get Microsoft Office Professional 2010 for an staggering $349.99.
Yep, you might be saying, LOOK at this prices, its time to tell Microsoft enough is enough and to switch to something better and with consumer in mind, its time to switch to Linux, you can either use Ubuntu, or Zorin-OS which looks like Windows 7 and is derrived from Ubuntu which is the best Linux distribution to date. You can get zorin-os from http://www.zorin-os.com/free.html
With linux you get: Libre Office which offers even better compatibilities for many different word professing formats than what Microsoft Office 2010 offers you, it can understand documents, spreadsheets and presentations created from dozens of different programs ranging from Windows based to even Machintosh based programs and it costs you: $0.00 yes ZERO bucks, you get Gimp to edit and enhance pictures (the linux equivalent of Adobe Photoshop), you get Google Chrome to surf the Web, you get easy application installation support through the "Software Center" found in the start menu, you can install programs, games, etc that way by just clicking at it. You get all that at no costs to you and best of all, Linus is a very secure operating system, you get no viruses, no trojan horses, and a super stable operating system for life, all for zero dollars! Its time to tell Microsoft ENOUGH! and to dump it from our computers once and for all (be sure to backup all your pictures, documents, file first in your USB thumb drive, external hard drive before you install Linux so you can restore them after installation back to your PC
I am a professional PC tech and am willing to volunteer my time in helping the most needy and technologically disadvantaged install Linux on their PC free of charge. It is also a good idea to hand out DVD-R copies of Zorin-OS 5.1 along with the protesters, I have plans to doing that, but I don't know up to what extent my already tight budget will allow me to do that.
HeardofEconomics, thanks for your question, and here is my long answer to your iPhones related question:
No, I dont like iPhones, there is many problems with apple's heavy use of planned obsolesce on all their products. For starter, the batteries of every ipod device, including all iPhones, iPads made by Apple is non-user replaceable, that means that you cannot easily replace your battery on your iPhone because there is no easy to open compartment in the back of the iPhone. When the iPhone battery goes bad, which is guaranteed to happen sooner or later, you only have two Apple sanctioned options: 1) Pay apple hundreds of dollars to have them replace the battery for you by crack-opening your iPhone in the process erasing all data on the device (your music, pictures, etc) or purchase a new iPhone. At least on the HTC (one of apple's competitor) you can replace the battery your self and hassle free.
So, to answer your question, I dont like iPhones, I prefer the HTC, at least on the HTC I can replace the battery, add extra memory storage via SD card slot, something that the iPhone lacks as well. Did you know that all iPhones, iTouchs, etc made by Apple does not include an SD card slot, yes, not even the latest model that just came in now, the iPhone 4S does NOT have an SD card slot that itself keeps the iPhone behind technology. But my mayor gripes with Apple is the fact that its batteries is not user replaceable, the fact it doesn't not have an SD card slot I MIGHT ignore, but I cannot ignore the battery issue. Many users (like my self) like getting the extended battery version of their cell phones they use that allows them a talk time of up to 8 to 12 hours straight up, it double or triples their allowable talk time per each battery charge, try getting the extended capacity battery for your iPhone, you can't.
To top the problems with Apple, they charge wayyy to much for their battery replaceable craps that is due to go bad on you very soon to later.
Apple, shame on you for your planned obsolesce tactics. The fact you can't replace the battery on your iPhone act's like a "self destruct" timer, even if the device it self doesn't develop other technical problem, but then your battery goes bad in 6 months to 1 to 1 1/2 years later you are not going to tolerate a phone that lets you talk like 10 to 20 minutes before the battery goes kaboom and needs charging again, at which point Apple expects you to happily buy them another iPhone at full price, or pay them hundreds of dollars to replace your battery on your behalf which you are most likely not to do because with a little more cash you can just get a new iPhone, THAT'S planned obsolesce.
Apple, do it RIGHT! and make the battery USER REPLACEABLE.
The Linux vs Windows fight is as full of passion as a democrats vs republicans fight.
iphones are much more...do you like them?
