Not my quote, but I love that young people are finally looking at the exercise of freedoms around the world and recognize that they are not free either. The architects and trustees of this current social, political, and economic models, (among others no less important), are not operating for the benefit of the 99%. The major parties have disappointed everyone by action and omission.I have heard the suggestion that the movement is hypocritical because it utilizes the very same corporations that it condemns, but it smacks of "I'm taking the ball and going home" .I think we all agree that corporations are great at creating wealth for it's shareholders, so why not use that for the benefit of all in our society? Why do we have to throw away all the good along with the bad? Doesn't sound smart to me, and I don't get the feeling this is what's being offered here. Good. Our country has many resources, not the least of which is our many bright politicians and business leaders, let's keep a few good ones. I'd love to see President Obama go down and camp for a night or more if he's up to it and get in front of this thing.
I myself at 50 years old have had many jobs, many had no retirement plans or health benefits, and paid barely enough at times to afford the basic necessities of life. While I managed to scratch out a decent living working for myself, many times we had to choose between necessities or simply go without. I'm sure tens of millions of Americans lived the same. Some of those very same employers at the time had multibillion dollar profit years. Unconscionable, imho. I know some will say that's one of the strengths of our system, and I get the point, but as in many other things in life, the answer may not be just black or just white. We have systems in place to take care of this sort of thing, let's use them. I myself am disgusted at the sad state of affairs that is our foreign policy. First we go ramrodding thru and now we are walking on eggshells to help. Lets end all the exploitative policies that breed malcontent and misery all over the world and we won't need so much of our resources to feel safe in our own country. Homeless people everywhere, no jobs, no prospects and the hopes of a revolutionary "change" dashed it's no wonder this guys want to go camping!
