History, whether it be mainstream media or in print isn't always accurate....it matters who is telling it or writing it....
LOL ! So hindsight is 20/20, but we should ignore it and not learn from our prior successes and failures ! In other words, we shouldn't learn !
People need to get DEMAND reputable sources to back up oft repeated but unsubstantiated "facts" (I can them "social facts" ... everyone agrees because they "feel right" and align with our own biases, but nobody has fact-checked them), and then they need to CRITICALLY EVALUATE them for accuracy (not for whether they agree of disagree but whether they are reputable and accurate).
By the way, I compiled the shopping guidelines from a forum post and hosted them at http://bit.ly/vof9WH so they'd be widely accessible and sharable via social networks. Check them out and, if you agree, spread the http://bit.ly/vof9WH link as far and wide as possible; we need a LOT of folks on-board if we're to have an impact !
The same goes for any information you take in. The validity of the source is always at the discretion of the observer.
Don't discredit history altogether. It's a very important tool in understanding the nature of humans and the world we live in.
Well, for example, I just can;t believe muslims with box cutters nearly destroyed the USA that day on 9/11....even looking at both sides of the debate....
It's important to hear all sides and cross examine every argument. I cannot stress the importance of good judgment and rational thinking more. If that's what you truly believe then organize a rational argument to convince people of it, and do that on every issue.

True, this may stem to some degree from the idea that a historian can be objective when describing history. All historical tales are subjected to the historians biases and opinions.
