Forum Post: just because you annoy people, doesnt mean you changed the world

This content is user submitted and not an official statement

the 1% is not being affected by occupy, your fellow 99%ers may be focusing more on the problems that you are highlighting, but this does not translate into anyone in the richer class bracket as caring. basically all you are doing is inconveniencing the 99%.

Maybe you should change your slogan from 99 vs 1 to 99 vs 99.

all of these responses, and not one disproves what I stated. Getting me or 1 million people to use the term 99% is not going to change anyones lives for the better.

@shadz66 - what exactly is it I don't belong to?

Well stated........

What has the 1% had to sacrifice over the last 3 months? what has the 99% had to sacrifice?

It has got people talking in a way that the political parties have failed to do over and over again and it has shown our country how fucked up and militaristic the police have become. I think that is important.

Changing the world takes a long time. I think most of us are not under any illusions that we have done that yet.

Wha?

great idea poorexiles, lets start to demonstrate and picket the super filthy rich 1% . at there vacation homes, place of employment, banquets. poorexiles , you could lead us into battle- against the rich 1%

The fact that you are even using the term "99%" is a demonstration that the movement has been effective. That term has entered the lexicon. People are thinking about it everywhere. A real dialogue has been started, nationally and internationally. People all over the world are talking about how vast concentrations of wealth translates into vast concentrations of political power, and are struggling to find ways to restore democracy. And this has been accomplished in a scant 3 months!

If the movement ended today, it would still be successful if only for that reason. It has laid the foundation for the real work to begin.

Since we have clearly annoyed you, we have obviously changed your world.

A toe fungus is annoying. Watching supposedly educated people wasting time and money is somewhat annoying, but really more of an entertainment. Neither of these annoyances will change anyones world. It is amazing to watch. Unfortunately, OWS rarely makes the news anymore. Can you explain why people are losing interest in OWS?

[-] 1 points by BeSmallBeLoud (35) from Youbou, BC 12 years ago

I suggest you stop watching Fox "news". On your knees, Bill O'Reilly.

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

They aren't losing interest. Don't mistake the media as "the people".

[-] 1 points by kingscrossection (1203) 12 years ago

The media reports on what is interesting to the people so they can make money. I think the term is sell the sizzle not the steak

[-] 1 points by GirlFriday (17435) 12 years ago

Honestly? They just do what they want. I have a book that looks at surveys that were taken for years and what people wanted was more international news and national news. We couldn't get that. Now, what do we have? We have fashion shows at noon with a celebrity cooking lunch. Oh, and "knowing" glances between broadcasters.

[-] 1 points by kingscrossection (1203) 12 years ago

I don't actually watch the news. If they were a proper business that's what they would do. Although there has to someone interested in all of that stuff or they wouldn't be on the air.

@ 'pexiles' : Your discomfiture and disdain ; antagonism and antipathy, as evidenced by your post above tells our fellow 99%ers (to whom you clearly feel that you do NOT belong !) all that we need to know about you in particular and The 1% in general.

Occupy Wall Street has in a few short weeks clearly brought many of the Dark Doings of The Banksters into the light and it will continue to do so as a coalition of forces and interests further coalesces under its banner. The unconscionable faux choice between 'Demoblican and Republocrat' and demoCRAZY deMOCKERcy of a Government OF The 99% ; BY A ~1% ; FOR The ~0.01% (ie The 1% Of The 1%) currently prevalent in The Usurped States Of America, is increasingly clear for all to see and its exposure hastens its end.

It's been less than two months but The 'Occupy' Meme is here to stay. 'OWS' is N0T merely limited to a geographical location ; it is a state of mind. The Movement has yet to mobilise and things are only just getting started ... much to your chagrin, no doubt !

I'm glad that OWS & The 99% are 'Occupying' your thoughts as much as it Occupying Warbama and his coterie's thoughts ;-)

Nice energy. Perhaps phrasing the whole message in Latin would reach a wider audience. Keeping "our thing" as mainstream as possible would be wise.

You know, I've been posting a lot on this forum. I have to wonder how big my file is now. Well, if it doesn't go to the root, how effective is it? Semper fidelis.
