Historically speaking, revolutions and uprisings happen often. Time and time again we come back to the need for another revolution. Here we are in our own time faced with that need for change. We are at one end of a cycle. Though the need for change is of course necessary especially in the short term, it would be unwise to dump our problems on future generations so that they will have a need for their own uprising.

I ask you this. What kind of groundwork can we lay out now that would break that cycle or at least mitigate it's effects so that when change is needed, there is no need for struggle?

NO, revolution has "i" in it, which means it is going somewhere!

Decentralize the means of production for good with open source, autocatalytic hardware sets.

Successfully do that, and the need for governments, economic regulations, and plutarch billionaires vanishes. Billionaires become obsolete when no one needs their money.

Apparently there is quite a bit going on around the country in regards to a need for massive change. Things outside the sphere of OWS. People on this site whining about "sitting around a park ain't getting anything done" haven't been doing there research. The main positive thing about Zucotti park and OWS is it's getting peoples' attention. If this was confined to the internet, it would never get exposure it's getting. That being said, check out these links, plus the 99% Declaration: http://algoxy.com/poly/emergency_powers_statutes.html http://www.osixs.org/Rev2_menu_intro.aspx

Kahn, I feel that, but the way this is growing it could very well make real progress.

ToddDunning: No, struggle is obviously necessary right now. I'm concerned with our future generations. We should plan ahead to some extent that they should have some way to enable change and have revolution without violence. America's forefathers tried to plan for this by writing into existence the first ammendment. Yet here we are time for another revolution and the fail safe that is our first ammendment is found largely ignored by those in power. Just as they couldn't possibly know how their new government could grow into what it is today, we can not know what will kind of effect ows will have on the world (if any) hundreds of years from now. Never the less, these are very important considerations. It was important to our founding fathers and it is important to us for the same reasons.

MattLHolck I think direct democracy is a good idea right now, but even with direct democracy we can not say with absolute cirtainty that this problem will remain solved. Direct global democracy sounds great, sexy even, but it hasn't been done and we don't know if It will even work.

So you are saying that overthrow is around the corner, and you would like struggle to be avoided?
