Journalist Fired For Anti-Fraud Sign At OWS

Surprisingly many people support the firing, on the basis that journalists shouldn't "advocate a political viewpoint". Putting aside that such an objection should only apply to actual reporting, since when did opposing rampant financial fraud become a "political viewpoint"? Around here we always thought it was just plain old common-sense, law-and-order, foundation-of-civilization advocacy.

Good. I AGREE with the firing. Many of the 99% DEPEND on journalists to INFORM them about important events, and we MUST know they are reporting from an unbiased position. Just as SOON as a journalist exposes even a HINT of BIAS, they SHOULD be fired.

Wouldn't we ALL be happy if Faux News showed the same integrity as BOING-BOING showed ?

I tip my HAT to Boing-Boing, and I will pay closer attention to what they have to say from now on.

Rampant fraud that was a ramification of a law known as Dodd-Frank. Of course Barney would never admit to that. He just encourages you to keep you from looking in his direction.

It's legal in the US to fire for a political opinion. Completely serious!

It's a sick system. Reporters should have to report things somewhat correctly.

I agree with you.

Obviously he wasn't a very good reporter if he had a bias.

Bias? She was holding a sign condemning actual fraud. I think journalists should be allowed to be against that like they're allowed to be against tsunamis and slavery and Martians invading and eating us ... these are things almost universally admitted to be bad, except by the Martians.

I don't. I think they should report the news. If they want to make the world to know what they're opinion is, they should work for an opinion, not the news. I don't care if fraud is good or bad, just tell me what they are doing and leave the opinion to myself.

And ... they can't even have opinions in their free time?

I don't know where you're going to find journalists without opinions, especially opinions like "Fraud is bad". Perhaps we could manufacture special amoral news robots for this purpose.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

I have never bitten the hand that feeds me. Indeed, I have never bitten a hand. Though I have occasionally nibbled at an earlobe. And your point is?
