the sub sites of each region are divided by geographically relative web resources(cut off), some of the forums are run by frauds. the ows is beginning to stink of politic and a large number of protesters are fringe elements or paid troublemakers, some have descended into the verge of riots. the people running their site are just as secretive as those they complain about. this is worse than the tea party ever was and i hated that movement. even in the working groups the natural human struggle for supremacy is taking hold. in a weeks worth of exposure on one of the world most popular sites has only netted themultitude as of my post, 167 users. i could gather that in one night in a chatroom and the site owner here know it. i love that so many passionate folks have found a way to get off the party line and try to do what is right, but are you ok with riots? ok with being labeled because of the fringe elements. the trolls on the forums are spreading thrue the network faster than the supporters. and quite honestly, the cold will separate the free loaders and the protesters. when the free loaders leave the numbers will not look good, comical even. i cannot follow the movement down this road. i seriously hope the movement makes these decisions on their own lest they look very foolish in the very short term. good luck, much love.
the good of it: people with power have found a reason to give a damn and some have already started work inspired by the movement.
A bit pessimistic I think. All communities that grow to any substantial size will include fringe--for better or worse. I have noticed that many of the mainstream OWSers on this site have been extremely good about effectively ignoring those who are promoting their own political objectives, or those who claim that OWS belongs to any particularly political stance, or those who simply sound off out of what is likely sheer boredom. From what I can tell after reading through and commenting on threads for the last week, most participants have been thoughtful and considerate and even intellectually pragmatic about their suggestions for influencing changes in the ethics and behavior tied to the economies of the US and other countries around the world. Let's keep it going--and let's be smart enough to ignore those who have nothing to contribute. (and let them know, nicely, on their private pages).
