It would be absolutely absurd to think that an internet forum could ever be focused. any jack ass can sign on and say something. Even ME ;-) But can we try?
Undoubtedly my next statement will fire up an entire slew of points made from every direction but damn-it, i gotta try again.
The one person I see who can actually lead us in a direction that is anywhere close to being inline with the common people is RON PAUL.
Check out his plan and see if you agree http://www.ronpaul.com/2011-10-17/ron-pauls-plan-to-restore-america/
If Ows is such a joke, how come it has spread across the world, come on rome was not built in a day. Problem being is that America still sees itself as isolated, it is not and it maybe even that is part of the problem!
This whole event is on a world stage not just a single country, nowadays politics influences are world wide, the strategies which have taken place in the last few months, including bailouts, may well have been decided by other influences than the White House.
Singular Governmental policies in play, Republican And Democrat, Conservative and Socialism uniquely entrenched in political agreement, kind of sucks, but that is what has happened!
The world has been protesting, and unfortunately rioting, for longer than OWS has been going. Greece is on year 3 already and America is just at one month.
OWS didn't go world wide, get out of your American centric view point.
Not to discredit what is going on with OWS, but we are actually behind the curve.
OWS did go world wide, or at least should I say the trend picked up from the activities of OWS, now we have Rome, London, Paris and more.
Unfortunately for Greece although they came out, they had no real impact, their efforts mostly ignored by our media and to be honest the media of the rest of Europe as well. And as for impact, the demonstrations of Greece could probably be compared to a twig against an Oak tree! Sorry but I'm being honest.
Greece has also now been subject to the next bailout which has been given the go ahead. Sad thing is that the people probably won't benefit from it, as it will only lead to more austerity as they struggle to pay back what is ultimately a loan.
I am not however centrist, I am UK and am watching events unfold as more people start to wake up and that from whatever aspect can only be for the good.
In some ways you might be behind the curve as you say, but to be honest the media have probably done more than their fair share in holding things back! At least that is my opinion.
I guess we just have different perspectives on the same issue. The world has been lashing out since the 2008 crash and now some people in other parts of the world are picking up the name Occupy.
I've been pounding my head against the wall trying to educate my friends and family since 2009 and nobody gave me any credit until now. OWS is bringing awareness but it is just one part of a paradigm shift that has been happening for a few years. This is why I feel it has not gone worldwide, but America is finally understanding the broken system that is, mostly, worldwide.
Ron Paul is another asshole. The problem is Bernanke. Bernanke commits perjury and tells Ron Paul he isn't printing money.
Ron Paul sits there like an asshole.
I'd have the cops in the hearing put the cuffs on Bernanke and lock him up for perjury.
Why swear in a witness and then ignore his perjury that is destroying our currency.
http://overthecoals.blogspot.com/
You are late to the party. Ron Paul has been discussed to death - and handily dismissed.
Arrogance is a huge problem in this movement. A lack of realistic strategies just sitting in the park all day.
Use great opportunities. I don't care if you like Michael Moore or not. He has a huge audience and I watched him say nothing about the slaves being used in China.
Is he a fraud or just dumb. He needs to be confronted. I wrote a report about what he said. read it and learn something. We can use him for our benefit. http://overthecoals.blogspot.com/
Has anyone suggested a workshop at the park on how to run for office like city council or the House of Reps? A workshop like that would scare a lot of people. Plus, a lot of protesters really should learn more about running for office and actually do it.
Disagree. I don't think we need this.
But if we did, he would not be my selection. Buddy Roemer is more in line with this movement. But I don't think we should recruit anyone to lead us!
Are you part of the elect Ron Paul campaign?
I agree that we need to focus. This is why we need surveys and polls to determine what direction most of us lean. Here is once such poll. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JWPJM3N
Lol the world is copying this you idiot! hopefully you and your ilk will eventually bear the brunt of this movement and your moronic opinions will be consigned to the dustbin of history!
Why don't you all just leave our country if you hate it so much?
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” ~Gandhi
the whole worls is laughing because you idiots are becoming the "teet party" go move to cuba if this country and its founding principles do not suit you. once there, you will be provided with your government issued ration book....and then try earning a living. YOU ARE ALL A BUNCH OF FUCKING MORONS!!!!
Trolling with propaganda. Seriously leave that Ron Paul crap at home. You people advertise him so much on here, which contributes absolutely nothing for this movement, that people are actually getting sick of hearing about him. If you want to worship him go to one of his rallys and do it.
We are here to fix the country, not pretend some career politician is going to save us. We been doing that for years and it has only gotten worse.
You could elect a poodle president and get the same result. Because presidents do not matter. You have to control both the congress and the president ( Or just all of congress works too then you can skip the president completely). We need to be focused on controlling politicians not electing more "hope and change" and hoping the change might get around to doing something.
I find this intrigueing:
http://occupywallst.org/forum/our-1st-demand-needs-to-be/
If the world is laughing than why are they joining in?
The world is laughing because the selfish people of the US live in the center of the world economy and benefit more than any other place on earth. Thus we see a couple thousand protesters in a city with 9 million people. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands protest around the world, tens of thousands in each city around the world. I am not taking your extremist Ron Paul bait. sorry. "In times of crisis, the far right often harnesses the insecurities of the precarious, as well as the monied, in the service of xenophobia and austerity" (Lilley 2011: 1).
http://robinhoodtax.org/ Tax all global financial transactions 1% watch: 'The Banker' vid about the Tobin Tax spread this as one of the main demands.
Use that fund (trillions) to pay for collectively identified & agreed goals From Earthquake relief, to famine, to health concerns, and more importantly to Policy Shift - climate change mitigation through Energy policy shift, Food policy shift, and healthcare policy shift, education policy shift, jobs creation through infrastructure - old to new- shift that. Those things can be paid for and more.
Sorry but the OWS has very little overlap with the gullible Ron Paul cult.

hey thanks for bring martial law to a city near me.
I am trying to get people to use existing means to get a message across. The white house launched a site called we the people. It is for people to post petitions to the administration. Here is a link to the petition I am putting forth.

There are also several other good ones like:

We have been noticed … and while we have the world’s attention let’s not squander the opportunity.
We now need to focus … focus on how government and fairness in this country can be returned and belong to everyone not just an elite governing few.
We need a position – a unifying theme – something that everyone will get behind … something that people can grasp and something that the 1% will understand.
If we wish to win.. and to win long term, we must settle on the most important change we wish to achieve. Preferably it is one that everyone who is not one of the 1% agrees with.
Very seldom are there situations where virtually everyone agrees the same change needs to happen. If we press a platform that is diverse then we will be opening ourselves to division within ourselves, and as result providing those who have every incentive for the current rules to stay unchanged - weak points for them to exploit.
Remember united we stand and divided we fall.
Does everyone believe Student Loans should be forgiven? No! Does everyone believe we should simply withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan? No! Does everyone oppose the NRA? No! Does everyone believe in a women’s right to choose? No! Should they? That is a different question. To have such debates and to be part of the debate we need first to get back the government of our country! We will not do this if we list many many demands. We will not move forward because we will be endlessly debating amongst ourselves. Save those debates for later – later until there can be a real debate - rather than simply rules and stances decreed by those who weigh everything with a single criterion – namely “what’s in it for me!”
Currently the 1% does not take us seriously – they have hunkered down and are waiting for this surge to fizzle and burn out. We too will likely tire if we do not have a understandable major goal - a shining beacon to carry forward.
Beware of those who were initially critical and deriding of us – and yet are now those who position themselves as our champions. I do not want to be lectured to as to how we need to act because we don’t understand the political process – especially by those who for years have been at the beck and call of the 1%. I don’t want headlines blaring forth our victory only to find whatever we thought we had achieved is whittled away in a legislative process.
The legislation that becomes law should be a law for the 100%.
I plead with everyone who is part of or considering to be part of this movement – put aside issues that divide us – adopt the incontrovertible single point and aim of what I believe we all demand. Let’s get our government back!
To start, let’s not wait until next year to hold a National Meeting, let’s challenge our elected representatives NOW! If Grover Norquist can require all Republicans to sign a pledge to never raise taxes – then we can ask and expect that every representative, every senator, every governor, every mayor, and in fact every elected official sign a pledge that they will not take money from any corporation, PAC, organization, and that they will only accept a maximum of $500.00 (the amount is not significant it could be $100 or $1,000) per individual. Let’s make sure that those who do not sign on to the pledge will not receive one vote the next time they run for office, and anyone who is elected and who has accepted monies from other than individuals will face a recall.
This will be the start – let’s have our elected officials declare – go on record – as to where they stand – let’s make them go public so we can create a bulletin of shame . Let’s also make it clear that any company, PAC, Union, organization and/or individual who in the past has donated (either transparently or otherwise) more than the threshold we agree on, that will now not sign our pledge to limit what they provide and to cease and desist lobbying – they too will be put onto the Wall of Shame and will suffer the isolation and of boycotts until they do sign on.
While we do all this we need to keep in mind that we live in a democracy – or at least wish to. In the society we live in we need to respect that we will have differences of opinion. We must make it clear that the expression of one’s views is still everyone’s right.
I will be the first to sign the pledge …. Will you join me .. and demand that every elected official declare themselves to be with us … or not .. and that they doo so publicly.
Yours truly,
Alex P
PS. If we endorse any particular candidate we will immediately lose the constituencies of the other declared ones. ALso once again we will be endorse a number of issues on which we are not all in unison. Also use of four letter words (or 7 letter derivatives) do harm and no good to the cause of the OWS. If we want to be taken seriously lets not provide ammunition to those who hope we fail.
The reason why representative democracy is not working for the majority of people is because of the concentration of democratic power in the few hands on Senators and Congressmen. Few hundred representatives have the power to rule over 300 Million Americans (it was never intended by our founding fathers) !!
Any sort of concentration of power is against the idea of democracy. So we have two options to solve current problem,
a) Divide the representatives' power by multiplying the current representatives count by 50 times. Divide their salary also by 5 times, so basically the tax payer's cost for representative's salary will go up by ten times. It would be money well spent, as we have diluted the power of each Senator and Congressmen and hence the Congress and Senate will be a more democratic representation of the common people and their views.
or
b) Rule by a Public Jury system. Let the current congress and senate draft and pass bills, but a public Jury system will have the power to overrule any bills passed by the congress and senate. The public jury will also have the power to suggest new bills and get it passed by a Referendum of people. The members of the public jury will be just a random sample of common people who will be selected for each gathering. There will be no appointed members of the Jury and if any randomly selected Jury member wants to be opted out, he/she should be free to do so.
Unless we fix our current representative democracy, 1% will always be more powerful and wealthy and there is nothing we can do about it.
Also if we want the OWS movement itself to make any progress, we will need to have one of the above 2 approaches to build consensus and make progress.
It is good that so many, conflicting new ideas are being discussed. Over time, the ones that make sense will gain a following, the more improbable won't. It's called 'freedom of speech'. Yes, we have a circus now, but we are very early in what hopefully will amount to a serious reorganizing of a large, intractable system for the benefit of the vast majority of us. A little crazy early on exposes us to a wider range of ideas than if we self sensor to only those things that 'make sense'. Let's stay a circus for a while longer.
This is true. Maybe this is just the initial chaos you expect when desperate people finally have a voice?
Here's a guy called Rusk who had a solid idea.
http://occupywallst.org/forum/five-goals-and-demands-the-occupy-wall-street-move/
Yes, you are right. This is a fucking circus, and it also is a perfect example of what happens when you have a pure democracy. This is why 235 years ago, our Founding Fathers formed a Republic.
Profound words indeed.
I think many people have seen what Ron Paul is about. Some agree, and some don't. Let me say this though, if you think this is a circus, just wait. The elephant and the jack ass have yet to show up. NO MORE 2 PARTY SYSTEM!
Coke advertises 100s of time every day for a reason. The reason isn't because even 1 person on the planet has never heard of Coke.
People need to be beaten over the head to make them buy.
The word BRIBES needs to be hammered over the heads of every citizen in the USA until the brain dead get the message to vote for a new 3rd party.
It doesn't matter if its the Green Party or the Libertarian Party. There must be a party structure to capture the 38% Independents who keep voting Republican or Democrat.
Agreed. Bribes hits the nail on the head.
Thank you.
Now help me convince these people to make the message real clear -- BRIBES.
and it has happened in the good 'ol US of A on a few occasions
they took bribes, steve, the senators and congressmen and president. they all took bribes. there are powerful people in this country, and they don't reside in DC.. they own it. and us. I see your point. But I believe we can change that with numbers. The same thing has been happening on repeat throughout history.. The civilization is born, then grows, then thrives, then is corrupted, then overthrown. not far off from the sociological patterns of the Ape family.
You are dead wrong. Nothing like this has ever happened in history. George Washington led a revolt with a horse. We have the internet, phones, and TV but George Washington couldn't lead Americans to revolt today because they are in the propaganda trance.
The entire country is glued to their electronic crap. They are unable to discuss anything except Dancing with the Stars and the Kardashians.
Failure to create a 3rd party is because all Americans including the OWS people are in the propaganda media trance that has all Americans convinced that a 3rd party is impossible. Complete ignorance to this propaganda is missing from OWS.
It is ridiculous to suggest bribe (CAMPAIGN FINANCE) reform.
For 3 decades they keep claiming to do this and all you people can't catch on to the bribes is their reason for living. They love their bribes.
Only public funding with no ads from anybody (an obvious bribe) will prevent bribes.
The OWS ignoring bribery -- proves they are in the same deep trance as the rest of Americans.
negative much. Ok, Ill meet you there. Part of me agrees with you, but also acknowledges that this will get worse. And I think if there can't be reform, then there will most definitely be revolt. It is the point of no return for millions of people not only in America, but worldwide. Greed has globalized.
Revolt?
Revolt using the ballot box is the entire remedy. Sitting in the park with signs is no remedy. It is only the start. Let's get to phase 2, pronto.
Of course everybody is aware of bribery. Failing to focus on bribery is another blunder. Bribery needs to be the key to the protest.

I agree, bribery is the cancer of the US government. A career, even. I disagree that OWS doesn't believe a 3rd party is viable. I have spoken to MANY who not only believe in multiple parties as the future of this country, but are also convinced that 2012 will be the death of the current 2 party system. Just the beginning. As the months roll on, this political landscape will be reshaped by the wave of reform. thanks just me. appreciate this dialougue
The death of the 2 party system can't happen until there is urgent effort to make that happen by nominating and campaigning for a 3rd party. It won't happen from sitting in a park for months with signs that fail to address the BRIBES.
The bribes are being addressed, at least where I am. The unanimous answer to the "what is the demand" question is, GET PRIVATE MONEY OUT OF POLITICS! That is striking the corruption at the source.
I was in the park yesterday. There wasn't 1 BRIBE sign.
Then YOU hold it! start that and inspire it in others. I know that people feel that way.. This is new and leaderless. Voice your opinion, carry that sign!~
I spoke to as many people as I could for 5 hours.
I'm not going to sit in any park with a sign. Since they are doing it anyway, having BRIBE on every damn sign would clear up the question why the protest is there.
your help is needed voice your opinion carry a sign that says. - no more bribes in DC
you can't "sit in a park" for an hour during a general assembly and carry your sign? When you went to the park "yesterday" like you said earlier, you didn't carry a sign. I don't know why you wouldn't. If you feel so strongly about the 3 party system being the way out of this mess, one would think you would promote that idea as much as possible.
I write my blog to explain coherent issues. I don't waste time holding a sign. I'm on this forum hoping my ideas will convince the 99% we need a 3rd party right now. The most incisive issue to get elected is to focus on the main problem -- BRIBES.
BRIBES are neutral for the 99%. To get enough support there needs to be 1 message that applies to every 99% voter. It is the 1% who pay the bribes. They are the enemy.
BRIBES is like COKE. We can't say BRIBES enough.
A 3rd party is only viable if the OWS makes that its priority. That means lots of work. Sitting in the park with signs is lazy. It served its purpose. The next step must be to organize the 3rd party, choose candidates in every district, and blow the crooks out of office and into prison for the bribes and kickbacks.
The entire protest needs to focus on the BRIBES.
Make it clear. The solution is only a 3rd party. Quit wasting time sitting in the park. Go home, nominate a 3rd party candidate and elect him/her.

Ok, the signs in the park are just a part, and in my opinion a powerful part. They keep the signs always active and in view. Then, we have the "experts" who are studied like lawyers, economists and scientists. There are many who support this cause. They will become the writers.
The voice is the people engaged in a pure Democratic system. Every city, every General Assembly.
I have a question. You state "Of course everybody is aware of bribery. Failing to focus on bribery is another blunder. Bribery needs to be the key to the protest." and then "It is ridiculous to suggest bribe (CAMPAIGN FINANCE) reform." Those seem contradictory to me. maybe I am not quite understanding you.. please explain
Read it more carefully. Give me a specific you don't understand. Then I can address that.
The issue is BRIBES. How simple is that?
In one post you contradicted yourself. I asked you for an explanation. You state "Of course everybody is aware of bribery. Failing to focus on bribery is another blunder. Bribery needs to be the key to the protest." and then "It is ridiculous to suggest bribe (CAMPAIGN FINANCE) reform."
Hey, you wrote it.
campaign finance is the BRIBE SYSTEM
Is that too tricky for you. Do you think they will identify their own crime by using the word BRIBE.?
The bribery isn't just campaign funding. Lobbying in DC, state, and local councils is ridiculously out of control. State and local government are bribed. Judges all over are bribed. As I mentioned before, it's a very deep and serious issue.
At the heart of the issue is the "Citizens United" decision that allows corps and banks a virtual personhood without the consequences a real person would face, and the 'legal' power to pour unlimited funds into campaigns. The movement clearly wants that overturned, and corporate personhood outlawed.
BRIBES is like Coke. Coke doesn't advertise the sweetner, the color, the color of its logo, the bottle cap. Coke advertises COKE.
i know what that means... read my post.. first you say focus on bribe, then you say it is ridiculous to suggest reform. essentially you are saying we are fucked.. that is a logical analysis
Right. We are fucked. That's exactly my point.
The fucking propaganda has put the entire country into a trance.
I used to be in the trance. I wrote a book about it. Look at my blog and see my book.
Sorry Steve, you're wrong.
Quite a few of us are aware of the bribing and lobbyists. The fat cats don't even try to hide it anymore. The problem is getting an end to that shit; it's so deeply entrenched that it's a really difficult proposition. The politicians and their 'friends' on wall st are gonna strongly resist a demand to boot the lobbyists and stop taking bribes.
Everybody on earth is aware of Coke. Is Coke wasting $$billions advertising Coke to everybody who knows about Coke?
They never write BRIBES on their signs. They have confused the public who questions the purpose of the protest.
The purpose is the BRIBES.
Whoa Steve, chill. You don't know when to quit!
You got your point across, and across, and across. I admire your enthusiasm, but carry it too far and you start looking kinda obsessed, y'know? You're preaching to the coir as is, guy. We know this shit all too well.
Now, maybe you can come up with an idea on how to nuke the bribes? That would be welcome. Clue: "Citizens United". Work on that, please.
Did COKE get its point across? Are they stupid? Is there 1 person in America who hasn't drunk a Coke?
What would happen if Coke quit advertising in America?
You know this shit? I don't think you know shit. I want to help you win the protest. Do you mind?
"I want to help you win the protest."
I see that, and thanks. You point out the problem, and cool, I get it. Really. But the broken record approach gets stale, bud. I got it the first time. Hells, I got it a long time ago, before the protests began.
The problem is noted. Please, crank out a possible solution. That's what's needed.
OK good. Pass it all around. See this about Michael Moore.
http://overthecoals.blogspot.com/
When Tiger had 15 girls that story was on day and night from November to the Masters in April. That's how it works son. Play it over and over just like Coke does. You need to understand how this works to defeat the enemy who is literally robbing our jobs, our work, our pensions and they use bribery every day.
This won't disappear because 1000 people are sitting in a park.
The word slave never came out of Michael Moore's mouth while he was saying that the $2.1 trillion that is being held by the corporations is not their money. Its their money they made it from the slave trade just like Americans did to the Africans.
The way all those multinational corporations ripped off the $2.1 trillion is by using slave labor, but Michael Moore refuses to use "SLAVE" during his appearances on TV. Michael Moore may mean well but he's covering up the truth. What's his purpose for covering up the Bush conspiracy for rigging the explosives in the WTC? Covering up the WTC because Michael Moore doesn't want to believe the unmistakable evidence.
It doesn't matter what Michael Moore wants. He should want to choose the truth of what actually happened to collapse all 3 buildings. America isn't a nursery school for fairy tales. Americans have been put into a deep trance. Americans make fun of the Muslims who will get 72 virgins in heaven. It is far more stupid and crazy to want to cover up the simple evidence that I have to prove probable cause. http://overthecoals.blogspot.com/
Of course everybody is aware of bribery. Failing to focus on bribery is another blunder. Bribery needs to be the key to the protest.

I haven’t bothered with mainstream news in over a decade, I know it's a bullshit machine. They're paid to lie, spin, spout propaganda, and sensationalize war and violence. Yeah yeah, what else is new.
OWS knows it, too. When the Faux news guys show up, they're greeted with chants of "Faux news lies" and "Tell the fucking truth". OWS supporters set up a website to expose those liars and demand their shutdown.
So much for the media trance.
The bribery isn't being ignored, I can assure you. A demand that it ends completely, absolutely, and yesterday is definitely on the agenda. Getting that demand met, I believe, would be a cornerstone victory. Expect heavy resistance from the bad guys; they won't like it one bit.
You can't be more wrong. Never using the word BRIBE while using the propaganda words -- "donations" "contributions" "campaign finance" proves the trance.
The msm has a huge audience. Never watching it to hear their lies to the huge audience is the same as a football coach who never watches the film of their opponent. That is dumb and no football coach would ever do that.

So what's wrong?
OWS and friends are making a dent, major progress for a month's worth of resistance. Shall we review?
The Occupation begins in earnest. NYPD resort to pepperspray, beatings, and all too rough arrests. An appalled world takes notice, support swiftly swells.
Rightwingers and mainstream media, Fox and GOP Repubs especially, begins a campaign of vicious slander and trolling, trying to defuse the growing movement, without success.
Bloomberg and NYPD plot to oust the protest. OWS gets the word out on the plot. Backlash from supporters is immediate and overwhelming: Thousands pour into liberty park, Bloomberg is bombarded with phone calls and emails, crashing the switchboard. Bloomberg concedes and the cops stand down.
Protests and supporters continue to swell, not only in NYC but across America and globally, making it clear that the movement is strong and growing rapidly.
Thousands begin withdrawing and closing accounts with the big banks, myself included. On the night of the mass march on Times Square, Citibank has people arrested for trying to close accounts.
The mainstream media for the most part is still trying to cover it up and slander, Fox especially, but this is not stopping the movement at all. Politicians are beginning to take notice and realize this isn't going away; there's talk in DC.
Formulating the One Demand continues, not only with OWS General Assembly, but in other Occupy gatherings and across the support network. Ending the bribery is a chief concern.
OWS has accomplished a lot in the past month. I just hate to see it collapse because there's no second stage.
They have built a super foundation.
Steve here's a way to put your personal screws on lobbyist fingers.
http://www.getmoneyout.com/
Go get 'em, tiger.
American trade policy needs to be controlled by the 13th Amendment that abolished slavery. Michael Moore is either poorly informed or he's a shill for the corporations. Its time for Michael Moore to tell the truth or be exposed as a fraud. http://overthecoals.blogspot.com/
What kind of tangent is that?
WTF does Michael Moore have to do with that website? It's not run by Moore, but some activist running a petition to abolish corporate cash in politics. Nothing to little to do with the fat guy with the camera.
Read what I wrote. Quit being arrogant.

Ron Paul? Maybe you mean Ru Paul ;)
the whole worls is laughing because you idiots are becoming the "teet party" go move to cuba if this country and its founding principles do not suit you. once there, you will be provided with your government issued ration book....and then try earning a living. YOU ARE ALL A BUNCH OF FUCKING MORONS!!!!
Actually, there was an interesting observation from a commentator, a political science professor, and she said that OWS may retain more clout by remaining leaderless, but growing their anger along with their ranks. This keeps the politicians and the media guessing but also maintains the tension that is needed to force, however slowly it may occur, the changes the OWS seeks. If there was a leader, no doubt they would be attacked by the media and authorities on behalf of the elite. I do think non violent disobedience needs to be kicked up a notch to increase that tension that is necessary to move the cause. For every action, there is a reaction.
oh, please!!!!
Don't fall for this psychological crap from any one percent goon. It's an obvious attempt to divert our attention from the obscene, unjust, immoral, and illogical concentration of wealth. Donald Trump went on record the other day telling us to blame the government instead of Wall Street and the richest one percent. His goons are obviously online and on air trying to divert our attention. Don't fall for it. Just keep protesting no matter what the one percent goons say or do. Our message is vital. Below is my two cents:
We have been mislead by Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush Jr, Obama, and nearly every other public figure. Economic growth, job creation, and actual prosperity are not necessarily a package deal. In fact, the first two are horribly misunderstood. Economic growth/loss (GDP) is little more than a measure of wealth changing hands. A transfer of currency from one party to another. The rate at which it is traded. This was up until mid ’07′ however, has never been a measure of actual prosperity. Neither has job creation. The phrase itself has been thrown around so often, and in such a generic political manner, that it has come to mean nothing. Of course, we need to have certain things done for the benefit of society as a whole. We need farmers, builders, manufacturers, transporters, teachers, cops, firefighters, soldiers, mechanics, sanitation workers, doctors, managers, and visionaries. Their work is vital. I’ll even go out on a limb and say that we need politicians, attorneys, bankers, investors, and entertainers. In order to keep them productive, we must provide reasonable incentives. We need to compensate each by a fair measure for their actual contributions to society. We need to provide a reasonable scale of income opportunity for every independent adult, every provider, and share responsibility for those who have a legitimate need for aid. In order to achieve and sustain this, we must also address the cost of living and the distribution of wealth. Here, we have failed miserably. The majority have already lost their home equity, their financial security, and their relative buying power. The middle class have actually lost much of their ability to make ends meet, re-pay loans, pay taxes, and support their own economy. The lower class have gone nearly bankrupt. In all, its a multi-trillion dollar loss taken over about 30 years. Millions are under the impression that we need to create more jobs simply to provide more opportunity. as if that would solve the problem. It won’t. Not by a longshot. Jobs don’t necessarily create wealth. In fact, they almost never do. For the mostpart, they only transfer wealth from one party to another. A gain here. A loss there. Appreciation in one community. Depreciation in another. In order to create net wealth, you must harvest a new resource or make more efficient use of one. Either way you must have a reliable and ethical system in place to distribute that newly created wealth in order to benefit society as a whole and prevent a lagging downside. The ‘free market’ just doesn’t cut it. Its a farce. Many of the jobs created are nothing but filler. The promises empty. Sure, unemployment reached an all-time low under Bush. GDP reached an all-time high. But those are both shallow and misleading indicators. In order to gauge actual prosperity, you must consider the economy in human terms. As of ’08′ the average American was working more hours than the previous generation with far less equity to show for it. Consumer debt, forclosure, and bankruptcy were also at all-time highs. As of ’08′, every major American city was riddled with depressed communities, neglected neighborhoods, failing infrastructures, lost revenue, and gang activity. All of this has coincided with massive economic growth and job creation. Meanwhile, the rich have been getting richer and richer and richer even after taxes. Our nation’s wealth has been concentrated. Again, this represents a multi-trillion dollar loss taken by the majority. Its an absolute deal breaker. Bottom line: With or without economic growth or job creation, you must have a system in place to prevent too much wealth from being concentrated at the top. Unfortunately, we don’t. Our economy has become nothing but a giant game of Monopoly. The richest one percent already own nearly 1/2 of all United States wealth. More than double their share before Reagan took office. Still, they want more. They absolutely will not stop. Now, our society as a whole is in serious jeapordy. Greed kills.
Why do you insist on reposting a big blob of the same text over and over. Do you think that this is the best technique to get your point across?
Personally I think that posting a link to the same big blob of text over and over is more effective. Especially if you can find some way to work it into the conversation at hand. About focusing and accomplishing something, or whatever.
The only long term solution to our economic problems MUST include some method of more equitable distribution of the vast wealth of our nation. I see no reason why someone needs to be paid many millions to convince them to be an investment banker or corporate executive. Surely, talent could be found for only a couple of million annually. We need a redistribution, and the most likely method of achieving this would be in the form of much higher taxes on wealth. This would include eliminating things like reduced tax rates on investment (capital gains).
The money raised could be used to lower the tax burden on those with lower incomes, and to improve schools, fund public transportation, and other projects that benefit a greater portion of our society.
Every tax loophole is a redistribution. Most defense contracts are a redistribution. It all is in return for BRIBES.
Of course everybody is aware of bribery. Failing to focus on bribery is another blunder. Bribery needs to be the key to the protest.
Read more http://overthecoals.blogspot.com/
