This post is not intended as a knock on OWS, mind you, it just seems to me it's just not the big deal it was back, say, in early November.
Any thoughts?
OWS is very new. It's not even in its infancy. Still in the womb really. Go to an occupation, even one that has been evicted and you will see how vital it is. There are many reasons why it will not only continue, but will grow. First of all this is a world wide movement addressing world wide issues, just as the initial demonstration in NYC sparked occupations all over the world, a major step forward anywhere will lead to greater steps forward everywhere. The crises that OWS is addressing are real and unlikely to go away. As long as the crises are there the movement will be there.
that's just silly.
Rep. Deutch submitted a joint house resolution that if ratified by the states will become the 28th Amendment to the Constitution.
The name of that amendment:
Outlawing Corporate Cash Undermining the Public Interest in our Elections and Democracy (OCCUPIED)
You can find more on this resolution:
in the Forum Post
the PDF of the resolution at Rep. Deutch website.
repelican reaction here.
maybe we should occupy the blog.heritage.org
assorted systemic failures caught up with them, and now they will have to work those problems out or lose energy. Analysis shows they are workign the problems out but very slowly... and.. losing energy. The real question is will they manage to get to the work of a revolution, or are they spent now that they have had their temper tantrum? Is there any "ADULT" attached to or lingering behind all of that "Infant + Adolescent"
????????
There certainly is, but its a small core group and fraction of the movement, which brings it back down. At the height of the buzz 70 percent of the population agreed with and was sympathetic towards occupy. Its drifting back down to again become one percent trying to break the 98 percent free of their mental cages courtesy of the other one percent. one percent revolutionaries, one percent the elites, 98 percent caught in the middle.
the difference that nobody can underestimate the value of or the change regarding is that now all the revolutionaries are no longer working alone. Two months ago , three months ago i was fighting for a human evolutionary event. Alone. I'm still more or less alone... But its looking like i might actually have help ...as soon as the network grows up...
So... Your terms and spin and probably your agenda are off, but the basic point or most fundamental point inside of that is true, to put it systemically, occupy movement double in sized every week or 5 days- until last week...
The signal to noise ratio will have to come up- and drastically- or the 98 percent will end up thinking of occupy what the corporawhore pundits and trolls tell them to think.
The bad news for you is it wasn't really ever that big a deal back, say, in early November.
Well, there needed to be an "event" to carry it forward. Either a clear voice that could capture the imaginations of non-politicals or some dead kids in the street.
Now it looks exactly like the same people who shout slogans and beat drums at WTO meetings, just the usual far left suspects. Look at these posts, crazy conspiracies, idiotic economic proposals, incite to felonies, outrageous claims against anyone with two bucks to rub together.
OWS needed to appeal to the middle, many actually thought it would but people don't want destruction, they want change. OWS couldn't deliver.
Until they take the time to get to know, understand, and speak the language of-the middle-they will not gain any traction with them.
I was taught that simple principle as a CHILD.
People don't like to be yelled at. Or called names. Or labeled with negative terms. If you want people to like you, treat them the way you want them to treat you. Because if you treat people like crap, and they turn around and treat you like crap in return-you deserve it.
I would agree if they could get off their asses long enough to jump said shark
Only children seek attention.
Keeping the in 'news' yes that is achieved, but only because the US public likes to watch violence on TV.
Now that ALL us city's have DHS running them and all media coverage is controlled access like what happened in LA they now simply control media access just like they do at the US Prez press meetings. If your not known to be a suck-up MSM person, then your not allowed to cover.
The kids in the OWS seem to enjoy most getting sprayed with tear-gas and then having their face on youtube.com where they're a rock-star for 15 minutes. The MSM can easily ignore the youtube and world or say that the images are artificial, virtually everything can be denied by the police-state.
The original OWS came together very quick, but now at all meetings and protests maybe 5% of the populate are cop's ... thus its largely game over.
ONLY by de-centralization, and "KNOW YOUR PROTESTER", can the OWS ever hope to over-power the police state.
In many ways since day-one this love of being contained in a cesspool has made it ever so easy for the police-state to control the OWS crowd.
The only way the war can be won is by wide dispersal and infinite small protests going on, its seems that OWS wants to fight empire with empire, .. the fact is you can only fight a giant by drawing him out so to so many places that he becomes weak, and out numbered. With the OWS people always staying in one place and living in their own shit&garbage they discredit themselves and make it easy for the cops to control,
Watching this circus from day-one makes me think the entire ORG was orchestrated by the cop's in the first place, CHOMSKY say's the debate is always ran on both end's by the empire, this charade is no different than past, and most OWS people here tend to be sheep that are easily led by consensus.
