I’m going to make a suggestion that probably won’t be very popular. I think we need to invite the Tea Party to join us. If we really want to represent the 99% then their voices need to be heard. We don’t have to agree with them on everything. But we do need to listen. Our differences are big and they are important. But if we get together I believe we’ll find we have a lot more in common than any of us would imagine. Washington and the corporate media are working to keep us divided by labeling the Occupy movement a left-wing Tea Party. If that happens all we’ll accomplish is increased polarization of the country, which is not what we need. A house divided against itself can not stand.
Why not? Brilliant idea. The 99% and the Tea Party share many of the same views, especially as it relates to the greed and undue influence of Wall Street on our government. Broaden the tent. Just keep the politicians, who take campaign funds from Wall Street (which are almost all of them), away. Never let the 99% become the Democratic Party's antidote to the Tea Party. Reach out and show solidarity with the Tea Party instead.
Yes we should! At least for our common goals of getting money out of politics and regulating wall street. These are things that everyone can agree on and we need to start there.
Its a triple edged sword. OWS is an organic protest funded and run by the people who believe in it. The tea party is well documented as corporate funded civil outrage. There are members of the tea party who have the same end goal of OWS, but their philosophy of for achieving that end is tragically flawed. If they were to be let in it would be best to separated them from their benefactors and organizers. This would be a b*h of a sorting process. Instead of just a sloppy merge of the two movements I propose a kind of summit were members of both movements can engage in a processes orientated discussion were we can discover what end goals we share and how we can achieve them. Ultimately I think we can work with outraged citizens of their movement but they should be kept at an arms length.
Yes, certainly.

Hear hear!
I second that emotion.
I've suggested the same thing previously. If they won't join under our banner, we still need to encourage them to embrace shouting "END CORRUPTION". The more people calling for it, the more likely we will have success.
