I've clicked through a lot of the individual stories of OWS supporters (you know the folks holding a page in front of their faces).
I see a handful of themes:
- tons of college debt.
- Lots of people claiming to have degrees but never saying what they are in.
- People who do tell their degrees, and all of which are choices I could never see making money at regardless of the economy.
- People with healthcare problems but very few debilitating. I think I've seen one cancer post out of the 4-500 I've read.
Now I don't want to judge because I know some of us are just lucky. But I have two BA degrees and an MBA. My wife has a PHD and works in research. We finished with no debt. Paid for most of our educations ourselves.
So I have a couple of questions:
Should we feel bad for those who pursue vanity degrees like political science or creative writing but don't get jobs. (I don't believe most novelist or copywriters have creative writing degrees). I don't believe most politicians have political science degrees.
Should we not be mad at universities for fooling us?
Just seems that a bigger problem than Wall Street is our education system. I am NOT an advocate of free education for everyone because I don't believe its for everyone.
I say all of this as someone who has been taken advantage of by an individual worth over $100,000,000. Yes, 8 zeros. I've stared that arrogance in the face. Its sad but I don't see that as our big problem.
