This is a place where you can take a moment of silence, and post in remembrance of this once-great country. NDAA sucked the last gasp from her today.

"The act, abbreviated as NDAA FY2012, managed to make its way through Congress with overwhelming support in recent days, despite legislation that allows for Americans to be detained indefinitely and tortured by authorities for the mere suspicion of committing “a belligerent act." "

http://rt.com/usa/news/anonymous-ndaa-portman-torture-913/

"Don’t be confused by anyone claiming that the indefinite detention legislation does not apply to American citizens. It does. There is an exemption for American citizens from the mandatory detention requirement (section 1032 of the bill), but no exemption for American citizens from the authorization to use the military to indefinitely detain people without charge or trial (section 1031 of the bill). So, the result is that, under the bill, the military has the power to indefinitely imprison American citizens, but it does not have to use its power unless ordered to do so.

But you don’t have to believe us. Instead, read what one of the bill’s sponsors, Sen. Lindsey Graham said about it on the Senate floor: “1031, the statement of authority to detain, does apply to American citizens and it designates the world as the battlefield, including the homeland.”"

  1. 48 percent of all Americans are either considered to be "low income" or are living in poverty.

  2. 57 percent of all children in the United States are living in homes that are either considered to be "low income" or impoverished.

  3. 77 percent of all U.S. small businesses do not plan to hire any more workers.

  4. There are fewer payroll jobs in the United States today than there were back in 2000 even though we have added 30 million extra people to the population since then.

The Supreme Court will Strike the law down in no time. Breyer, Kennedy, Kagan, Scalia, Ginsburg, and Sotomayor will be the 6 needed votes. Even Justice Roberts might agree (being a strict constructionist, one suspects he'd have issues with the suspension of habeus corpus embodied in the law).

Now we have to worry about SOPA passing. It is time for every American to stand up and protest this bs. If they don't do this--then it is RIP America.

Obama said he would veto this and they will never get a 2/3 vote to override his veto.

[-] 2 points by BlueRose (1437) 12 years ago

Did he just say he would? Have not turned on news yet.

[-] 1 points by JoeTheFarmer (2654) 12 years ago

He said it several times over the past week.

Obama Under Fire by all Sides for Lifting Veto Threat on Terror Bill

This article doesn't give the actual reason, but I believe he originally threatened to veto on the grounds the bill didn't give presidential power to authorize detention, and instead gave it to some position in the military branch (I don't remember the position title). Anyway, They rewrote the bill to correct that issue and now Obama will pass it. Sorry. But it will pass.

You are reading that wrong. Read the first paragraph again.

"for going back on his pledge not to veto a security bill"

My understanding is that he pledged NOT to veto the Defense Authorization Bill because the money is needed. That was before the controversial amendment was put in. He then went back on his pledge not to veto the bill it because of the amendment.

I'm glad I'm past my 69th birthday because I really don't want to live in a dictatorship. I hope the ghosts or spirits of our Revolutionary War Heros rise from their tombs and haunt all of those who did this dastardly deed.

Edit this post by putting what the NDAA stands for and how it hurts the country. It will help get it more attention. :)

This is so completely beyond fucked up...

There goes the old "Capitalism equals freedom" alibi.

As well as that whole "Only Socialist countries lack true freedom" argument.

Is it safe to Occupy / Resurrect Marx yet?

And there it is. Not much about it in the news today. And you know what the average American cares about? American Idol, Jersey Shore, alcohol and sex.

Some American is always running around screaming the sky is falling to make changes to our constitution taking away our rights and that is a fact which make my blood boil. Will it ever stop?

[-] 1 points by BlueRose (1437) 12 years ago

Oh we need even MORE changes to the constitution.

Just what we need another scandal with an elaborate scheme to cover up a rotten politicians orchestrated investment.
