The all-India general strike of February 28 brought together workers of various sectors and political stripes, civil servants along with rickshaw drivers, united under a banner of opposition to neoliberal policies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government. The labor movement of the world’s largest democracy issued a stark challenge to the idea of deregulation as an economic cure.
AFP quoted All India Trade Union Congress general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta: “We are fighting for our rights against a government that is anti-people,” http://www.commondreams.org/view/2012/03/01
Did you guys see this?
Here is an update on the four on hunger strikes.
A commentary is found here.
If anyone hears anymore updates, please post them.
Will it take the courageous actions of workers in places like India and China to actually raise labor standards around the world and eventually, perhaps, even the U.S.?
It just might.

This situation is likely to get real ugly real fast. Talk about a classist society. They revere the cow more highly than they do most of their population. In fact they feel that their designated lower class is lower than animals. You don't have a choice of class either you are born there and there you will stay.
Yes.
It is absolutely no wonder that the world is in such a mess.
They keep trying to shove this neoliberalism crap down and it is an epic failure. It is a failure everywhere.
'GF' : Ditto to the maximum. Thanx for your excellent post ~;-) & http://occupywallst.org/forum/arundhati-roy-the-right-to-dream-we-are-fighting-f/ .
per ardua ad astra ...
The Indian government worships US economic policy. As a result of 20 years of the free market economy, today, 100 of India's richest people own assets worth one-quarter of the country's GDP while more than 80% of the people live on less than 50 cents a day; 250,000 farmers, driven into a spiral of death, have committed suicide. We call this progress, and now think of ourselves as a superpower. Like you, we are well-qualified: we have nuclear bombs and obscene inequality.
There it is.
Alas, 'GF' ... The Cold Hard Truth !!! e tenebris lux ...
Yep.
I try to stay away from all labels unless it is on food packaging, drugs, instructions for safe use of power tools and such.
I try to look for in all actions or proposed actions, for the health and prosperity of all or for it's absence. If it is there ( Health & Prosperity for all ) count me in. If it is not there do not even ask.
Deregulation and privatization is the same issue that they are having.
I would think they are using tactics from the same book.
And they are!
Kind of makes sense now when you see a murdering monster run from their own country to hide in some one Else's.
I was just thinking. You must play follow the leader. If you don't play follow the leader than you are Cuba. If you do play follow the leader then you know you are going to jump off a great big cliff anyway.
Thus far, you cannot win and you cannot not play.
Which murdering monster are we referring to?
I can't think of his name, but he just lost power and is running to Bangladesh or something like that. Over near Egypt. I was thinking that, that Syrian mass -murderer would end up doing the same unless his people get hold of him 1st. Then he would be another Gaddafi.
