I support OWS because this is what I feel America has become and I think the only way to overcome the situation is through this movement This is what I think America has become

America is now a governmental system led by a shadow board of wealthy corporatists, who have almost complete power through the façade of Democracy and the controlling of the message through ownership of all major media. They subtly suppress opposition and criticism; control all industry, commerce, etc. They emphasize an aggressive nationalism, while demonstrating a lack of patriotism through the systematic transference of jobs into the global domain. They protect their interests through the court systems up to the Supreme Court that bases its decisions on what’s best for the board

YES to OWS! I so love what you guys are doing, putting your bodies on the line for all of us. It's the first time in decades that I feel that we could actually turn this suicide train around. It is beyond right, left, Dem. or Rep., it is love in action, the survival of the human race, the taking back of our power from those who would enslave us. This is the time to get it done. Please End the FED and firewall the gov't from corporate goons. Thanks.

I support the general motivation of this movement because I'm not in a fear-induced trance.

Best comment ever.

Well put. I support OWS in spite of a fear-induced trance.

Even better. Hilarious. I'll come back and tell why I support it just as soon as I can properly articulate it. Not quite sure how critical I should be. Go easy or pull no punches.

I support OWS as it will be the fastest and fairest means to enable change and make it so all needs are met and no more corporation's greed and we get that money.

I support OWS because I do not want corporations buying favorable legislation through lobbying. Because I want capitalism restored. Because unlawful business practices should punished, not ignored.

The counterbalance to the tea party (support it)

I'm behind OWS because despite its foibles it represents an actual attempt by entire subsets of the American people to start asking the hard questions about where our country is really headed and what concrete modifications and improvements we need to make for tomorrow. I haven't always been satisfied with what I've seen on these forums, in particular trolls and kooks like Jeff Block, but I feel like despite these things OWS has real potential.

One of the things I have a problem with, however, is the idea that simply occupying is going to be enough and that functioning without some kind of leadership structure and/or clear policy platform is necessarily a good idea. I understand that OWS has an incredibly broad base right now, effectively ranging from libertarians who believe in Ron Paul to communists and Zeitgeist people, and that once we actually move forward with a platform we're going to lose some of them. At the same time I understand the fear of getting co-opted by big business the way the Tea Party was, and that would be an utter shame if it happened.

However, by simply staying in the parks and occupying I feel that OWS is setting itself up simply to become part of the furniture, and that we will eventually fade from the public eye. If we come back with a single, well-articulated party platform and a slate of candidates for 2012 that we can all agree to vote on as a bloc, then people will fear us. We'll be a large enough force to outright take several local elections and be able to make a point to both DC and Wall Street on a national level.

I have to choose between opposition and support? You and your binary logic. I occupy the grey area that I affectionately call "critical solidarity."

[-] 1 points by peteywheatstraw (22) 13 years ago

Good answer. I support people gettin together and starting discussions which not have been had in a long time, but it's a very diverse crowd and is still in its fetus stage. So yes, there is too much grey area.

I support the OWS movement. I believe that the OWS movement will grow and help facilitate the Democrats embracing a combination of regulations and incentives, to help private industry create high paying careers, in the USA and to help mitigate corruption and criminality; so we can employ the two most highly educated and underutilized generations in US history, so we can get the birth rate up and so we can attract the World to our shores.

comments by jomojo and booshington make me query the sense of this, do people even know why they are protesting? I get the 99% / 1% thing but most protesters in Australia anyway don't seem to know why they are part of the movement, why and what they are protesting...

[-] 1 points by jomojo (562) 13 years ago

I read those signs, especially the ones that are not from a print shop, I pause the videos to read them. That way I don't have to hear from a pundit what the individual protesters want. Their numbers and their determination are all that will be important to whoever is in charge of the shadow goverments of greed, who know how corrupt goverments are overthrown by unempowered masses.

I support the basic notion, yet despise the directed attack. Does anyone feel that if the hedge fund people vanished that we would be beter off? What the fund managers of TIAACREF whom represent billions in teachers, professors, engineers, et. al.

I support OWS for the ladies giggity

[-] 1 points by jomojo (562) 13 years ago

I'm for OWS because of what their signs read.
