I was discussing the idea on this forum of how OWS and Occupy Movement in general could be more inclusive to people with disabilities where "camping out" (for lack of a better term) is just not a safe option.
and it was suggested that that population could participate in other ways, you can stop by and donate food, change banks, buy local etc., but nothing that came close to equivalent of "camping out". (and I think, well at least for myself was frustrating because you want to get involved)
But then just now I was thinking the following: kinda curious about the legality of starting up mini occupy events. for an example, occupy prospect park (or occupy a local triangle park down the block). I say mini because no one would be sleeping over but we would be there during the day. this might be a nice alternative to "camping out", especially for those travel with medical equipment (such as myself)
also if these mini ones sprouted up all over the areas, it would be good for people who perhaps traveling to Manhattan is hard for them or not an option, but they could go down the block to a local park, etc
The first concern that comes to mind is that how would one keep these organized and in touch with the Occupy Etiquette, and connected to the bigger movement?
Thoughts?
another idea is people hang out in different spots of their neighborhood (near shops and things) and hand out flyers advertising Occupy Wall Street and what it's about
You ask some valid points. At this point, unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be any official channel to connect w/ #OWS except through happenstance. I think that will change over time, but for now, it's catch as catch can, it appears...
I guess this is my best bet

thanks for that.
I'll have to look on this website. there must be a FAQ/list of pointers when organizing your own Occupy (I hope)
Don't just talk about it, DO IT!
I think that it's an excellent idea. :)
thanks
kinda hoping to get some others to help with organizing as my health can often be on the crappy side and thus not the most conducive for solo organizing.
I'm also hoping to get some advice on the legal issues so I know my options/rights
I wish that I lived near New York - I wish that this forum could also be divided into subforums where people can organize their city's activities. In fact I'm going to e-mail general@occupywallst.org right now. /brb
that would be useful for organizing. or at least have a section for brain storming and a section for organizing, and the latter would be divided by location... or hmmm....
or maybe a database of people that want to get involved/help out. one of the criteria in the search would be by location
I mis-read, I thought we were supposed to occupy Ikea.
lol only if you have the urge to put together your own swedish furniture and even then not sure how that would help the bigger picture
