The ultimate goal of the occupy movement is to create positive change and tip the balance of power back to the citizens. To do this we need to create awareness and a critical mass of support for the changes necessary. In the past, peaceful protest has been a tool to achieve this but it has some weaknesses. People, unaware of the goals of occupiers sometimes find the protests inconvenient and are therefore inclined to shut-down to the message and either vilify or accept the vilification of occupiers. Organizations like fox news have been able to convince some people that the purpose of the protest is to demand a hand-out or that protesters have a sense of entitlement. Another problem is that police can be used to disrupt these protests and potentially seriously inconvenience the protesters. I believe have a solution to all these challenges.
Protest with civil service. Provide organized large scale services to the community while spreading the message. People will be receptive to the group of people who just shoveled all the driveways on their street, cleaned up their park, waterfront or neighborhood. Chose activities that get noticed and will not inconvenience anyone because then there is no way to vilify the activities. I think this would give the Occupy brand a lot more traction.
I like this idea. A lot, in fact. It's a great way to counter the 'all they want is hand-outs' myth.
I personally, would feel more productive spreading a message while doing a service for my community, than sitting in a drum circle or standing around with a picket sign.
Well, why not? It worked wonders for the Ku Klux Klan.

Great idea. Could be broadened to include voter registration...
