"You cannot bring prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanenty by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."

"We cannot wait for governments to do it all. Globalization operates on Internet time. Governments tend to be slow moving by nature, because they have to build political support for every step."

Lincoln never said any of that. Google it.

However, guess who helped put an End to slavery.

Abraham Lincoln never said these things.

They were written by a Presbyterian minister named Rev. William John Henry Boetcker in 1916.

He wrote: ....

  • You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
  • You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
  • You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.
  • You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
  • You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
  • You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
  • You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
  • You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
  • You cannot build character and courage by destroying men's initiative and independence.
  • You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.

He was a very smart man. Everything he said is very true, even almost one hundred years later.

so you say everything that this "very smart man is very true" but yet you are arguing on the side as a left wing liberal by posting on this forum. which makes me question do you really know what you and everyone else is arguing for/about?

[-] 1 points by RicoSuave (218) 13 years ago

I have no idea where you get this notion that I must be arguing on the side as a liberal just by posting on this forum.
