Please look at my blog with this title posted at dgschwartz.blogspot.com and let me know if you think my idea has merit.
I lied, I just read your blog. Your idea makes more sense than limiting free speech of individuals just because they have formed a corporation. I ran for office once. The paperwork required to comply with the election laws was a huge burden and the threatening letters I kept getting from the election commission would discourage me from wanting to run again. I spent and raised very little money, yet was required to submit way too much information. I also hate the idea of my every political donation being open to searches by my employer. We need to simplify the process and allow for anonymous contributions.
We need to engage more people in the political process. The real problem is not that corporations pay too much attention to politics, its that the people pay very little attention to politics. People on average (even including the corporate dollars) spend less money on political contributions than they do on potato chips! The people could easily compete with the political donations of corporations if they could stop wasting their time watching American Idol and spent more time actually monitoring how their representatives are voting and supporting political causes they believe in. We have a corporate dominated political process not because of the Citizens United decision, but because too many people are not engaged in the political process. (no I'm not interested in reading your blog)
You are right.
Good post.
