I've learned all I need to learn so now it's time to go... but I can't seem to figure out how to do that, lol.
You can't delete your account here. Your posts will linger on until the end of eternity.
I don't care about the posts, I just wanted to deactivate the account. I guess I can always get banned, lol. This is the first forum I've seen where you can't deactivate. They trying to keep the member count higher then it really is?
Ya, image counts. That's also why they ban people so they must create more accounts. I heard from a guy with 15 accounts.
Yeah, I kinda thought they claim they have more support then they really have. I was actually interested in the movement which is why I came here and found out what it seems to be, which I'm not interested in the least. With some of their supporters there is no way I could stand behind it. None.
Just because someone goes on record as having supported this movement does not mean that the movement supports them or their actions. There are many alleged enemies of the United States that were thrilled with this movement and its questioning of the US government policies. But that has nothing to do with this movement and its policies.
Uriah, it's me from the health care post. Don't go! Not all teenagers. 49 here. Self employed. I support these protests because of all the corporate money pouring into state and federal elections due to Citizens United. I agree I see some silly posts, but not everyone in this movement is like that. I also see educated, well informed posts as well.
I'm like you. I came here to see what it what all about, then I quickly realized it's just a bunch of uneducated teenagers repeating what others have said time and time again but thinking they were the first to come up with these bright ideas. I think the movement is almost dead.
Reading all of the proposals for total rewrites of the US Constitution coming from twentysomethings who have never taken a civics class has become my daily entertainment.
Oh and the proposals for reforming the economy from people who have never taken an economics class. Also highly entertaining.
Amazing. And you blog all the way from Bali for this? And your idea about forming an alternative site where protesters can express their views? Is this in Bali or in the USA?
I'm from Canada, but living in Bali, Indonesia. I just had the idea for the site yesterday, but it's already shaping more clearly in my head. I'm going to sit down in the next few days and draft a clearer detailed proposal and make a website for it. I just want to pitch the idea and see if it can gain some interest. If so, I'm hoping people can discuss it and give even better ideas and criticism and so on.
My ideas for the site in question could essentially work in any country that has a will to become transparent or where this is forced somehow by the people. I'm interested in shaping the idea at the moment, not so much in thinking about the implementation details. That will come later.
One of the things I just thought about was the idea that this type of site could force transparency by making it an advantage for representatives. Unless something is advantageous, it doesn't gain traction. For example, electric cars will only become widely available when there's a lot of money to be made in their production, unless the whole system changes. Now, imagine a site run by the government and owned by the people. In Canada, we can view he house of commons everyday on TV, but they mostly talk about little things so you have to watch for a very long time before getting the important stuff. That's why we wait for reporters to tell us what happened. Now, on the site I am imagining, there would be editors paid by the government (but not by a particular party) who write down everything that has been said and create sections of the main points. This way, you can quickly read what happened in the house of commons, or in your cities assembly, or whatever. Everything that happens in the government at every level would be covered almost in real time. This would mean transparency in near real time, and a representative who tries to hide things would immediately become suspect. People would start liking representatives who are transparent, and so transparency would become an advantage for them.
