Sandy Weill, one of the chief architects of the financial crisis is being given an honorary degree simply because he is donating $12 million of his ill-gotten money for a music center at SSU.
We just found out this will happen on May 12th
This is a complete outrage and an affront to higher education. Mr. Weill was one of the main proponents of the repeal of Glass Steagall (a key law resulting from the Great Depression that seperated community banking from investment speculation) and was instrumental in the creation of the sub-prime mortgage and student loan crises.

For giving $12 million to SSU, he is being 'honored' with a Doctorate in Humane Letters. This is only one aspect of Mr. Weill's relationship with SSU.
There must be a separation of corporate interests and public higher education--and this 'honor' being bestowed upon him flies in the face of that. SSU prides itself on teaching the valiues of democracy, social justice and the rule of law. This honorary degree given to a Wall Street fat cat puts all that to shame.

That degree is just about as valid as Obama's Nobel Peace Prize.
