Forum Post: New Idea: Please No weed/alcohol/drug/tobacco use at OWS meetings anymore!

Posted 13 years ago on Nov. 19, 2011, 11:47 p.m. EST by LaraLittletree (-850) from Scarsdale, NY
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

This might help us clear up and start creating some productive ideas and strategies. And to go forward with all the energy of people who want to join us and help. And the drug use might be a turn off to any gifted and educated, drug free participants.

OK I will no longer go along with this stupid allegation.

Look at the protest all across the country. I am sure that all of these people aren't stoned. As a matter of fact they aren’t even hippies as these right wingers call them

Are all Republicans gay just because a few have been busted in the airport men's room? That makes as much sense as what you are saying about OWS people

[-] 1 points by broshem (11) from Rowlett, TX 13 years ago

yes all republicans are gay, but not homosexual. They are happy with the status quo. We want to upset the status quo because we have more to gain from change than they do. Some of them will also gain but they don't know it because of the proverbial kool-aid they serve at NASCAR races, it's called Beer.

[-] 1 points by SoldOut (150) 13 years ago

You mean beer is the Kool Aid, I think I might be a righty (-:

But I have original thougths and I question things. No it's not the beer

It's the right wing crap they listen to while drinking the beer

[-] 1 points by broshem (11) from Rowlett, TX 13 years ago

Alcohol kills cells in the frontal lobe. A slow acting frontal lobotomy makes it easy to become a "righty" as you age; The more of your brain cells you kill the easier to buy the dream.

When you watch the live streams from NYC and Oakland etc. Alot of drug use in plain sight is going on. It is a real issue that weakens the movement. I'm not talking about any political parties. You sound defensive....Are you in denial?

[-] 1 points by SoldOut (150) 13 years ago

Are you in denial of realitly. Are you finding evidence to confirm your belief or are you trying to find the truth

How many events have you went to and people were smoking pot there. Did that mean everybody there was smoking pot

Look at the make up of the protestors how many of them are not young college students, yet they are refered to as hippies

[-] -1 points by LaraLittletree (-850) from Scarsdale, NY 13 years ago

I have been down the NYC gathering multiple times...and seen the live stream from NYC.. And believe there is plenty of drug use to be observed.. There must be a decent amount of covert use and abuse going on too. I never called anyone a hippie or pot head.

[-] 1 points by SoldOut (150) 13 years ago

Why do you suppose nobody is being arrested. Is pot legal in NYC

What events did you attend?

[-] 1 points by iwillprepare (61) 13 years ago

At Occupy Boston there are drugs all over the place--I'm sure its the same at other events.

[-] 0 points by LaraLittletree (-850) from Scarsdale, NY 13 years ago

Went to Zuccotti multiple times. I guess the cops don't want to be bothered w/ busting people over a couple of joints.. Unless they are also acting up and getting destructive, violent, or refuse to obey law enforcement.

[-] 1 points by SoldOut (150) 13 years ago

Thanks for the exchange, Good luck, I'm offline (-:

have a good one..nice talkin with you.

[-] 3 points by polkflguy (22) 13 years ago

Any intelligent person knows that the actions of a few do not represent the majority. It would be ignorant to suggest otherwise!

[-] 3 points by rockyracoon2 (276) 13 years ago

maybe joint will help bring about better ideas

[-] 1 points by broshem (11) from Rowlett, TX 13 years ago

This works after not smoking for half a year or more. Not a whole doob but just a couple hits off a number will send you into connection land, ideas born out of your shift in perspective. Similar to Leary's Turn on, Tune in, and Drop Out concept. If you've been smoking for a while though your receptor cells are dulled to the effect. read about it: http://antoine.frostburg.edu/chem/senese/101/features/anandamide.shtml

doesn't always guarantee it. better to try some planning straight and sober. we don't need weed to get along and discuss and plan how to proceed,

[-] 3 points by SoldOut (150) 13 years ago

Let's make it mandatory that everybody has to take corporate made drugs from the government sponsored legal dealer (the pharmacist)

[-] 1 points by LaraLittletree (-850) from Scarsdale, NY 13 years ago

That's a little silly....members who need pharmaceuticals should continue to follow their MD's Rx.

[-] 1 points by SoldOut (150) 13 years ago

That was a joke. Are you aware the legal drugs are now the biggest drug problem in America

I was implying that it is okay to be stoned on Oxy, but not pot.

[-] 0 points by LaraLittletree (-850) from Scarsdale, NY 13 years ago

Well you get my point in the bit at the top of the forum.. Someone who is legitimately on medications...no problem Any abusers of whatever their using, stay out or sober up.

[-] 1 points by SoldOut (150) 13 years ago

I think you are either naive or disingenuous. You are portraying these people as dumb ass pot head hippies.

Many of them have college degrees and are very bright people that will be an asset to America someday.

I don’t know if you are just another right wing shill trying to create a false impression or that you have bought into the deception that the right wing is pushing.

Either way it goes you are perpetuating the right wing demonization of these people

[-] -1 points by LaraLittletree (-850) from Scarsdale, NY 13 years ago

I am neither, Just making a legitimate observation and subsequent recommendation. I think that the anger is coming from people that can't leave the weed, etc. alone for awhile.

[-] 1 points by SoldOut (150) 13 years ago

I would be more worried if they were drinking alcohol . I would much rather be around someone that is mellowed out than some obnoxious drunk that wants to fight and start trouble.

I agree neither one should be used during protest, if for no other reason than personal safety

[-] 0 points by LaraLittletree (-850) from Scarsdale, NY 13 years ago

Yeah alcohol should a been included...w/ drug use...same mood altering effect.. Which is unneeded.

[-] 1 points by powertoothepeople (280) 13 years ago

I agree with you, because the drugs give the police a ready-made excuse to bust the occupiers. The Trotskyist movement I belonged to in the 1970's had a policy of not allowing illegal drugs by the members precisely so that the government wouldn't be able to shut down the organization.

"The Trotskyist movement I belonged to in the 1970's..."

LMFAO!!!

caricatures! not people, caricatures!!

[-] -1 points by broshem (11) from Rowlett, TX 13 years ago

THC resides in fat cells up to 6 months. I'm a head who has quit for 8, 9 months at a time to re-adjust and catch back up on how to compose myself sober minded. I've noticed the change in thought patterns and perspective that come with being sober for more than 6 months. What is the tissue that composes brain matter folks? Fat tissue. Verify.

If you plan to create a movement to take down this system, yes, you should quit smoking bud. When they start killing you, I'll jump in, a lot of people will - that will be the beginning of the 21st century's Civil War. I'm a free thinker, maybe I'm liberal but I'm also heavily armed. A Texan tried and true. Godspeed Occupiers

A noble sentiment, but hard to enforce and aren't druggies and pot heads part of the 99% after all, incoherent as mind altering substances might make them.

[-] -2 points by queenann (-220) from New Rochelle, NY 13 years ago

Great Idea,,, betcha your meetings get real small.

[-] -2 points by mrkeyjr (29) 13 years ago

This is why the OWS movement is a joke. No one marching on Selma had to say, "put away the bong," yet someone needs to tell OWS supporters this. And you people claim to represent the 99%. Please stop claiming to represent me, it makes me sick.

Lara. fortunately for the both of us, those who think squatting in a park is the best way to express themselves also happen to not show up to vote come election day.

[-] -1 points by LaraLittletree (-850) from Scarsdale, NY 13 years ago

Indeed the absence of these folks on election day is highly desirable.

[-] -2 points by LaraLittletree (-850) from Scarsdale, NY 13 years ago

They are not coming up with well thought ideas following passing around a joint. We need clear eyed, clear thinking individuals to lead, strategize and plan.
