Embarrassing religious leaders into supporting the movement's aims is a good way of bringing mainstream public opinion onside. Already in the UK there is a groundswell of popular support from unexpected (socially conservative) quarters. This has happened accidentally just because St. Paul's became involved by default when Stock Exchange protesters were moved on.

It's time to learn a lesson from this and to address religious leaders publicly and directly to persuade them to support the movement's aims.

Not all Christians are Catholic. I'm Baptist, good luck on that one. I still can't believe some of the posts I've seen here tonight, good grief.

You are right - and not all Catholics are Christians! Me? I'm an atheist, but I respect the humanitarian element where it is to be found in all religions. Persuading religious leaders of ALL creeds to offer public support to the aims of OWS that coincide with their own religious principles seems like a solid strategy. Getting mainstream public opinion onside will outflank both politicians and mainstream media.

This is what happened in Cairo: at first politicians and media didn't know what to make of it - but then public opinion manoeuvred them into taking a positive stance. The process can be repeated...

Ive found the comments by some politicians and talking heads interesting in that they want government to step out of taking care of social needs and charity to step in to handle it... This was the status quo before the government took it on, and it could not do the job....we have seen major charities guilty of fraud and embezzelment, and simply being unable to survive. As a nation we chose to recognize the needs of people who are struggling for survival, and to task the government with providing a service. This step was recognized to be necessary then, and it is still necessary today. The rabid attack on the poor is utterly disgusting. Further, while some charities are religion based without putting any strings on their giving, others force the needy to listen to preaching of their dogma to get help. True charity comes from the heart with no strings attached; the charitable act itself is the example. I'm glad to see that religious leaders are speaking up in support of Occupy and siding against the corruption, but i do question their motives....i cant help it....organized religion has such a long history of social manipulation and control for their own goals that i wonder if they see this as a way to fill the pews and the plates once again.

dear ows The nature of the Christian religion where there is no system of life of all things, nor can the clergy to take the decision alone, the Pope is the one who decides to support the revolution or not supported by, the people, when THEY believe in the idea of certain they do not need anybody to dictate to them what to do, is the nation state is put the ruling, which isolate the ruling, the nation decides what control, and any system you want, and this is different from the principle to another , THE FACT IS People decide in the end
