Geez, guys. Why not take a page from the Vietnam protesters--you know, the ones who actually GOT. SOMETHING. DONE.?

Besides, MANY OWSers have crushing student debt-loads. That's specific. You can TALK about that. "Middle America" can "get" a concrete grievance like that. "The universities are getting FAT off of OUR indebted blood, sweat, and tears! Make the b*stards WIPE THE DEBT" Now THAT's a slogan that would reverberate...

Actually, this is what they are doing at Haahhhvaaahd. The students (probably mostly 1%-ers) are occupying Harvard Yard, and they have the gates locked to keep out the riff-raff (the real 99%): entrance with Harvard ID only. The students can use the bathroom facilities in the dorms, the health center, and the dining facilities. Kumbaya, dude.

The purpose of a liberal arts education is to learn about the problems of the downtrodden masses, and to make a sufficient living that you can stay as far away from them as possible.

yeah lemme go occupy my campus right quick and see if that doesnt lead to a fast track on getting expelled. that would further push me to go work at the coffee shop down the skreet

dude the OWSers who do have student debt loans are the f-king hipsters who are partying it up every weekend, addicted to adderall, buying the latest styles at UO, or choosing wack a** majors like theatre production. quit self indulging yourself in macs and ipods and maybe you wouldnt be crying. the universities are getting fat off STUPIDITY

It took the Vietnam protesters 5 years till we got out of Vietnam. These protests have only been going on for 2 months..

Geez, guy. Why not wait 4 years till you make ridiculous comparisons about effectiveness??

I'll remember to bump this thread in 4 months.

If it's still here.

I said 4 years, genius.

In fact, 5 years was only starting at the Kent State shooting..

To be more accurate, it took 11 YEARS of protesting till we pulled out of Vietnam.

But go ahead and check in 4 months..

Hopeful, positive change is enacted by then.

The reason the protests in the 1960's worked was the SDS not only railed against the Vietnam War, but minority rights, apathy and the impotence of capitalist affluence.Popular support grew due to public outrage over the killings at Ohio's Kent State, Removal of the banks from the loan structure was a good first step, but a cohesive plan is needed.

Let's occupy City Hall. Mayor Bloomberg loves us. He said so.
