I'm supposed to write a paper for school on the OWS movement, the first question I'm supposed to answer is: What is the movement about?Does anyone want to give a non-biased answer to that question? Thanks

Okay. This movement is about economic justice.

What that means is, basically, that when everyone plays by the same rules, they have the same reasonable expectations that they too, can hope to win, or share in, the prosperity that is gained.

anti-corporatism anti-plutocracy

Google those phrases. Use those phrases in your paper, define them, and you should end up killing a page. How many pages does it need to be?

After that, you could easily allocate a paragraph to each of the demands listed on this site. There are 8 of them currently. There's another page or two right there.

Here are the demands: http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed-list-of-demands-please-help-editadd-so-th/

how bout think about the ideas and write a good paper...not waste space with easy to fill paragraphs....is this what we want to teach our youth....find the easy way...dont think too much and life will be just fine....hmmm maybe too many people took that route....

my suggestion is read these posts...think for yourself and consider what type of america you want to live in....one where you can work your butt off succeed and then the people in this forum will tell you that you have been too successfull so now your a bad person or are not contributing your share so you have to be taxed higher or a world in which you can work your ass off but it doesnt really matter because we will take your money to pay off student loans for those that didnt do so well....pay off their mortgages because they bought a house they couldnt afford.... and hell we'll take you money because eh.... its more fun to take your then make some of our own.

Or one where you work your butt off and if you work hard enough then you get rewarded. rewarded more then any country in the world.

clearly this is satire...but kid...really think about the posts on this site and make your own decision...write about what you feel about the situation and it will be great.

It only has to be 2.5-3 pages, shouldn't take too long to write if I knew what to write. Thanks for the response.

Cool. I hope you do well on it. Don't just consider it "an assignment," have fun with it. Learn something!

I'm just trying to help you write it well.
What grade are you in?

Know of any music that's involved with the movement? That's a big part of the paper as it's for a music class

look down about 6 paragraphs. I wrote about the drumming. There are lots of drums at Zuccotti Park. Lots of drummers, lots of dancers, guitars, even a flute or two.

I'll check that out. I'm a college student but have no idea on what is going on with this whole thing.

I confirm drum circles seen in Occupy Portland. Drumming seems to be a theme.

Well, you know that lots of people who used to be middle class no longer are. There's an average of 5 unemployed people for every available job opening. Thousands have lost jobs, thousands more have lost their homes. Thousands can no longer afford the lifestyle they've lived for most of their lives any longer.

We're frustrated with the expanding wealth gap. There are a few hundred people, at the very top of the income hierarchy who are fixing the system to their own advantage to the detriment + expense of everybody else.

That's what is meant by economic justice. Good Luck, Tiger.

Doubtful you'll find a non-biased answer, though I will try. It seems to me a movement by the people to move the U.S. from a polyarchy to a political system that more resembles a democracy. A decentralization of power from the hands of the wealthiest 1%, to the entire 100%. Class warfare might be a subject to google also. Political power. Whomever has the most clout is usually the wealthiest or the largest benefactors.

You people amaze me with your vast vocabulary. I have no idea what half of the words I've read on this site mean. LOL

End the federal reserve.

Institute a tax rate for the rich of that which is equal to what is paid by the middle class.

Reverse the ruling that corporations are people.

Prosecute Wall Street, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, AIG, and any other institution involved in the unchecked greed.

The 'movement' is about many many things. Because it means something different to everyone.

The main issue that people agree has to be changed is :

Government Corruption.

That the wealthy, the corporations and the bankers funnel billions of dollars in hopes of buying support from political parties and politicians to influence legislation and decision making.

That America no longer has capitalism - it has CORPORATISM.

It is about wealth disparity and all the issues it causes.

the majority of the protesters feel their government is controled by corporate and bank campaign money

[-] 1 points by RillyKewl (218) 13 years ago

First of all, start your question with the word, Does. Now, what exactly is the question you want an unbiased answer to?

[-] 2 points by itsme (21) 13 years ago

What the movement is about, in general. Anyone know of any music that's being used with the movement?? It's for a music class

[-] 1 points by RillyKewl (218) 13 years ago

Then, as far as music is concerned, well there's been a lot of drumming. Drums tend to symbolize a lot of what's known as "World Music," meaning it comes from diverse cultures around the globe.

[-] 1 points by RillyKewl (218) 13 years ago

Opps, sorry, I should have replied here. (see above).

"non-biased" on this website? Good luck kid.

[-] 1 points by itsme (21) 13 years ago

Here's my questions for the paper:

  1. What is this movement about?

  2. What does it mean to you and your family?

  3. What persuasive arguments have you found?

  4. How is music being used to rally support and foster solidarity in this movement?

  5. List a musical example that you heard being used for this purpose.
