I want to hang an outdoor banner on a power line where it's difficult to take down. How do I do it?

Also, how do I create the banner so it won't blow over? Do I cut slits to let the breeze go through, or do I weight the corners?

use fishing line to hoist it up since its non conductive, make sure you are wearing rubber gloves anyhow, since not all fishing line is completely non conductive, you then use a slip knot on the hoist lines so that you simply pull a second line and the hoist lines unknot and drop off. cut slits in the sign is the best way to make sure it doesn't blow around too much.

Warning, gawdoftruth forgot one little thing. DO NOT try this if you live in an area where rain showers are unannounced or frequent. That rain definitely does affect this little set of directions he gave you. AND, do not spit on those rubber gloves to get a better grip on that line.

-- I like it ---that's a great idea- It would probably stay there for weeks. And since nothing is conductive, the power company won't care- the power company will want to be paid to remove it.--

a banner about 2 feet wide and 8 feet long- on the top a 2 foot wooden rod, for rigidity- to get the banner to the power line throw a weight (a few ounces ) tied with fishing line with a breaking strength of about 20 pounds- to the end of that weak line- a stronger line 50 pounds breaking strength -about 10 feet long-- on one end a 1 pound weight on the other end , the banner.----------------after you throught the few ounce weight with its line over the power line pull the 1 pound weight and banner up- the 1 pound weight goes over the power line and once the banner hits the power line the 20 pound line brakes-- it should take less then 1 minute- to set the banner- but it will take a power line crew to remove it. the 1 pound weight keeps the banner up--

My suggestion is to stand a metal ladder in a huge bucket of water, Make sure you have lots of metal to weigh yourself down so you won't go flying anywhere. Now touch that power line.............don't scream too loud. You'll wake people up

Keep posting your thoughts. I need to know how to get a line across a 10 lane highway so I ca tow it out towards the median where it'll remain unmolested until the power company decides to get a crew out there to remove it.

How about using a bass rod or fly fishing rod to cast across the 8 lane road & median?

Whatever you do to get your banner up. Have a friend video and post it. Remember the famous last words of a Redneck,"Hey, watch this".

I would not recommend it.

yeah-ya. Ignore the nimrods.

And find a different place for your banner. You could get electrocuted - or your banner could start a fire.

I really don't think any computer could be this dumb - though sometimes I have to wonder.

Rest assured of one thing, if you can get it up there and properly attached you WILL NOT have to floodlight it at night until YOUR bulb goes out or has it already?

Another possible solution is to shinny up the first pole and with a pair of metal tin snips, cut the line going up to the pole. Then shinny up the second pole and cut off that line using the same snips and at the same place. This way, the line between the two poles will be just like the clothesline of old and you can hang your banner, your dirty laundry and a couple of your friends up there without any chance of being eletroed. (See disclaimer and warning below).

Check for more information on how to do this, just google "Ben Franklin, kite, key."

In the meantime, DO NOT touch any power line, at any time, at any place, during any kind of weather, for any purpose, for anybody, and definitiely DO NOT hang a banner up there. Just DO NOT do it.

This post is an EEO operation. We fully support and try to protect the rights of even the stupid.

PS: when you finish with this little project, please clean up the mess and recycle the trash and your bones.

I don't usually respond to these types of posts. But I need to ask you a question. Are you a real person? I know it sounds silly, but I can't help but wonder if someone programmed a computer to generate this stuff. I don't understand how a real person would degrade themselves in this manor. If you are a real person, what is your favorite color?
