Hi all,

Many of you probably heard this summer about the 400 international students who paid thousands of dollars to come to the US for a cultural exchange program and became captive workers at the Hershey's packing plant instead. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUOBlBFIBVY)

The students held a sit-down strike and demanded that the 400 jobs they filled become living wage jobs for local workers.

At noon on Halloween Day, the National Guestworker Alliance, SEIU1199, and other allies are holding an Occupy Hershey's rally at Hershey's Times Sq store (48th and Bway) against corporate greed and for good jobs.

Please spread the word, join us if you can, and if you can't, occupy Hershey's Facebook page!

Heading to Hershey's Times Square now (48th & Bway) -- hope to see some of you there at noon! Stay strong!

You said it, ramous. They've been doing it for years. The 400 jobs they've filled with J-1 visa students making $1-5/hour after deductions used to be union jobs with benefits and a contract, starting at $18/hour.

And the stock prices just keep ticking up...

yeah, go for it. Don't know if you realize it, but up until recently Hershey's donated so much money, and kept american jobs. Hershey's Chocolate Is Moving Some Operations from the U.S. to Mexico-Truth! Summary of the eRumor:
The eRumor laments that the American Hershey company that makes Hershey chocolate products is moving to Mexico. The Truth:
There is a significant move by Hershey from the United States to Mexico in what the company calls a "global supply-chain transformation." Not all the operations are making the move but according to a June, 2007 article in the Los Angeles Times about 3,000 of the company's 13,000 employees will be cut.

About 900 workers are to lose their jobs in the company's home town of Hershey, Pennsylvania and the Hershey plant in Oakdale, California, is closing down. Operations there are being moved to Monterrey, Mexico.

The times quotes Hershey CEO Richard Lenny as saying that labor costs in Mexico are 10 percent less than in the U.S. and that by 2010 the changes will save shareholders $190 million.

IT MADE the shareholders richer by $190 million.
