- $1billion more spent this year than last Black Friday
- 7% increase is biggest year-on-year rise since 2007
- Mall of America breaks record with 210,000 shoppers
- Experts predict 3.3% increase in holiday season sales
The Christmas shopping season got off to a strong start on Black Friday - with retail sales up seven per cent over last year, experts say.
Buyers spent $11.4billion at retail stores and malls, up nearly $1billion from last year, according to research.
It was the largest amount ever spent on the day that marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season, and the biggest year-over-year increase since 2007.
Most people are sheep and have no other construct for their lives except consumerism. This is typical behavior and really gets me depressed over whether people will wake up, and not continue to live lives of consumer driven slaves!
The numbers are fudged, they just want the population to feel like the economy is fine so they spend all their money the next month.
Dont fall for it.
that's quite possible. Since they are known to cook the elections, why would they get shy with some Friday's numbers?

EPIC FAIL so much for your boycott of black friday. With so much of AMERICA standing behind you all and your movement as you claim those rich store owners should be shakeing in their boots.Yep you sure showed them.HAHAHAHA funny as all heck.
Perhaps this years black friday success just shows how weak the economy still is and that folks only will shop if the deals are really good. I am interested to see the whole xmas picture this year as many Americans now have their shopping lists complete and will not shop anymore this year. So, I wouldn't say that black friday shopping shows the economy is getting better, perhaps this year will all in all have record losses? Consumerism is an addiction, and it will take a long time to rid ourselves of an addiction that we have been programmed to have from birth.
People spent money on black Friday by going deep into their savings and others used credit cards. for purchases. This spending spree is going to have a huge negative impact on the economy soon
Maybe the economy is turning? Maybe American addiction to debt is stronger than common sense? Maybe the 1% own the consumer mind ? Dunno.
the poorer one is, the more desperately he'll be looking for a deal to save him $$
Until people wake up this will continue. There will always be those people who pursue Mammon. For those of us unchurched: see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammon
No fruitcake for you, you eclesiastical nutcase! Why do movements like this bring out all the movers and shakers?
