Forum Post: Global Warming, What?

Until Al Gore actually produces evidence that stands up to a scientific rebuttal than he just continues to be full of shit. CO2 is not the culprit, climate is not static it's dynamic. How else can you explain the ice age up to now? If climate were static most of the hemisphere would still be covered in ice. People aren't the problem, it's the natural evolution of the planet. The North African desert used to be a lush tropical forest for crying out loud. People like Al Gore are just sniveling 1%'ers who have found a way to sucker you out of your money, and they call that way "global warming" or "climate change."

It's not just Al Gore saying that climate change is happening. It the consensus in the field of climate science. Yes there are a few scientist that disagree, but the overwhelming majority believe it is happening based on years and years of studying the climate and greenhouse gas emissions.

seems to me like a very bad bet - if the climate changers are right and we do nothing we are screwed - correct? if the climate changers are wrong and we ramp up conservation and move to solar and wind - we keep oil and coal in the ground - what is the problem with that? are we worried about exxon's profit? are we unhappy to create green jobs - the job of retro fitting homes and building solar fields cannot be exported to india. so what is the downside to acting on the problem - should we wait until your (phony) debate has played out?

can you respond to my comment. - I know shooz and the like will not hear of any ideas other than their own but how about a rational look at the "what if I am wrong" scenario. if the climate deniers are wrong and we follow their advice we are doomed. if the climate believers are wrong and we follow their advice - then what?? tell me the down side to creating a very aggressive program for conservation and renewable energy. that would be making the safe play here -no?

Scientists have observed that there's been an increase in green foliage around the world in the past decade that correspond to the increased levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. You see, our good Earth is much more dynamic and unpredictable than we can calculate or simulate at our current level of technology or intellect and I believe this should be cause to celebrate our luckiness in having grown up on this planet. We should really be grateful that we live in such a self-correcting and non-static environment and make use of this by jump starting another industrial revolution but this time allow those developing nations to join in with us. http://www.csiro.au/Portals/Media/Deserts-greening-from-rising-CO2.aspx

[-] 2 points by flip (7101) 10 years ago

do you mind stating your beliefs on climate change - as in a yes or no question

[-] 1 points by IndigoRed (87) 10 years ago

yes but the Earth managed to swallow up the overhead mistakes we've made into its dynamic and immense ecology.

[-] 2 points by flip (7101) 10 years ago

I doubt that any sane person thinks we will destroy the earth. just the ability of humans to continue to inhabit it in the same way we do now. is that what you are saying?

[-] 1 points by IndigoRed (87) 10 years ago

we may continue our industrial ways and may take this sign from mother nature as a welcoming gesture that we are in good, nurturing hands but that we should reciprocate the gesture. I believe in morphing to a renewable energy economy where individuals may be empowered through becoming energy independent and just more knowledgeable of technology and the one-world ecosystem we inhabit.

[-] 1 points by flip (7101) 10 years ago

do you mean continue in the way of the profit motive and the unregulated spilling of toxins into rivers and oceans and air. those industrial ways? "creating artificial wants and needs" (I will assume here that you are educated enough to know what that means) in order to sell more unnecessary shit to use up resources faster etc. should I go on - are those the industrial ways you are talking about

[-] 1 points by IndigoRed (87) 10 years ago

Commercial and energy industries are separate and dumping industrial waste into water sources is already regulated, CO2 is a different matter.

[-] 3 points by flip (7101) 10 years ago

I don't think you really answered the question - seems more of an obscuring of the issue to me. don't you realize that everything you buy - from food to ipads requires huge amounts of energy. so that the more we buy the more we pollute - in all sorts of ways. you're not aware of that? and if you think dumping is regulated then I think you need to read more - if we "continue our industrial ways" as you said then we will continue to pollute in all ways not just co2 - I would like to know what you think about all of this. if you want to do non answers then just don't respond

"CO2 fertilisation correlated with an 11 per cent increase in foliage cover from 1982-2010 across parts of the arid areas studied in Australia, North America, the Middle East and Africa, according to CSIRO research scientist, Dr Randall Donohue." You can see the percentage increase mapped by satellite data in this image http://www.csiro.au/~/media/CSIROau/Portals/Media%20Releases/2013/DesertsGreeningRisingCO2/SatelliteData/High_Resolution.png

[-] 2 points by IndigoRed (87) 10 years ago

apparently the entire Sahara is blacked out and there is no data for that region

who, me? And the satellite data does not assume there is or is not water in those regions, it is observed data of foliage and so based on the converse of your statement, there must have been water in those regions.

A word of genuine advice ; NOT everyone that you disagree with or don't like or can't relate to ... is either 'Trashy' or a 'Libertarian' or a 'Repelican' ! Also a useful cross reference here to the info and links herein :

All that is important is that others - outside of The DNC faction here 'can tell' - you schtupid wanker !!!

Your reactionary, conservative ass is well exposed and only 'Repelicans' are lining to kiss it and you are mentally deranged if you think that I'm a ''right wing shill'' lol ... but you can go find one in the mirror now.

The problem with made up language and words is that irrespective of what you may regard as 'obvious' or not .. not everyone will get what you mean - you get me ?!

There are 'Left Libertarians' like Chomsky, sff80 (et le petit moi aussi), who are essentially Democratic Marxists and are militant for True Democracy and Socialism ; and there are 'Right Libertarians' ... like some people you may have known in your youth for example ; and then there are Bat Shit Crazy 'Ayn Loopy Rand' worshipping misanthropic, crypto-fascists like The Kochs and their cohorts in Congress.

IF .. you think that this is a just problem limited to The Republicon Party and want to absolve The Democrap Party of any blame (cf. Blow Job Bill and Obomber) then most people in OWS will and should - have a problem with that and so batting for Hitlary Clinton seems to compound that crime.

Neoliberalism & Austerity at home & Neocon Imperialism abroad ... is supported by both factions of The Ruling Elite in The U$A and not to acknowledge that stinks of blind parDisanship and that's why you are fresh outta friends on this forum .. although factsy showed his face again today, bless his cotton sox ;-)

I very rarely use the word unless I can clearly spot a reactionary, right-winger or OWS co-opter ! But in your opinion ?!! Everyone .. bar ZD ; GF ; nh ; WendySquid/JiffySmith ; the 'bensdad/mideast/ericwiess' continuum ; frf (who I always liked despite our differences) and some others !!!

You'd be wiser to be a bit more aloof and impartial tho' and less hasty with banning people - because fools are hung on their own petard - so why not give them enough rope ? It'll all come out in the wash right ? And add to the spice too perhaps. The more people .. the merrier, imo.
