Forum Post: Global Problem. Can OWS rise to the global stage? And should it? Have your say!

Posted 12 years ago on Dec. 4, 2011, 3:29 a.m. EST by blazefire (947)
This content is user submitted and not an official statement

I am here because I believe this movement is global, not American. I believe that the only way, the only single way to face international corporations, is to face them internationally. I am Australian, second. I am human first. Is that not the way it is for you too?

I think most problems that exist within America, are the same as here, and, that those problems are relevant to EVERY single living being on this planet. The problems are global. This forces there to be a demand for a solution that is global in nature also.

Can America contain a world gone mad? Should it have to? Or can Americans rise above their own nationality? Can you, whoever you are reading this, rise above YOUR nationality, whatever it may be? Can you simply examine yourself, and the people around you as human. And then leave it at that? Can YOU leave your prejudiced behind, and your history also, and, give intent to forge a future based on peace.

What is it that you would create for YOUR children?

At this point, I think embroiling ourselves in national politics is a little like going to the mayor of your city to complain about the state of the nation. It's the wrong place to air such a concern, especially when none of the mayors of any of the cities seem to be talking. I think the true place to air the grievances of our people, of humanity, is on the world stage.

And I think it's our job to build one. To create a world stage, so that debate and discourse, reason and critical thinking may come to the fore on an international level, instead of predator drones and psyops.

I think peak oil/gas is not a problem. I think our denial of the problem is the problem. I think soldiers are not a problem, WARS are a problem. I think money is not a problem, sacrificing all that we could hope for for its sake is a problem.

Are we the world? Watching? Or are we less than that? Can we be more?

What WORLD would you have?

I have a dream....

Famous words.... from a human. What is it that you dream? And would world peace not feature high on that list? Would it not be simple to give that, to our children, to ourselves, to OUR nations?

Humanity. Why is this word so lacking in these forums? We NEED to discover, and then rediscover the true meaning of that word. WE need to be US! WE NEED TO BE THE WORLD! BE HUMAN! BE HUMANITY!

Surely I am not the only one who screams this wish into the night? Surely I have found a place to connect, with people! With people who see the problem, understand the scope, and people who, with sleeves rolled up and a set jaw are ready to take on whatever dirty job needs doing to save the future, for our kids.

WE ARE THE WORLD. WE ARE WATCHING.

Edit 1: Please leave any links that you can think of on this thread, that will aid in the globalisation of occupy, and, please gently remind those that would be embroiled in nationalism, that we could achieve so much more...

"I am here because I believe this movement is global, not American. I believe that the only way, the only single way to face international corporations, is to face them internationally. I am Australian, second. I am human first. Is that not the way it is for you too?"

You had me at I am here. Seriously though, i saw this first paragraph then quickly skimmed down so i could immediately voice my agreement. I am Canadian, but i also am human first, yes thats the way it is for me as well.

And i agree that this a global movement. Though i would point out that the 'I had a dream' thing... that was an American, and i do think America plays a big role, i won't say central, only because the world and everyone in it should be central, but i believe in those Americans who still believe in freedom and also believe in those Americans with the courage, the love and values to do something about it, and i do see them playing a leading role of sorts, though they are not alone obviously, far from it. (Solidarity to Egypt btw, and everywhere else). So much of it seems to be centered in America, but i am aware that those who are the puppet masters recognize no boundaries in regards to their exploitation so this movement should recognize no boundaries either, in my opinion.

1love.

i will now read the whole post.

peace ~

-edit- i think efforts towards a global Occupy consensus and interconnectivity in any and every possible way should be pursued. Strengthen the ties, the organization, the communication between everyone everywhere. It can only be a good thing from my perspective. I have seen beginnings of this here and there, and it is encouraging.

Thanks so much for your words! It's so good to see many people thinking along these lines. And I am including an edit (see above) because of those very words!

http://interoccupy.org/ here is one i came across. People may know it already, i haven't looked closely at it but may be worth checking out.

Here is another. http://thewallstreetprotest.com/2011/11/29/the-top-12-wall-street-protest-questions-so-far-12500-voters/

There are others as well that i haven run into, i will post further when i come across them again.

[-] 1 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

Thanks heaps for that! And yes I think America has a massive role! Which is exactly why I chose an Americans words ("I have a dream..."), to show what I was trying to convey. And I would ask, how Martin Luther King would answer, when asked whether he was American first or human?

I think (only an opinion) that he WOULD be human first, and that he would charge us to take this to the global level. Of course this is only MY opinion.......

"If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?"

What does this quote, also made by a human, also spoken in America, speak of, if not the very things that we would discuss?

Firstly, as you probably know, this forum is filled with paid obstructionists, so what you see here does not necessarily reflect the opinions of those right fully here.

I agree with you in everything you said. The question then becomes firstly, how do we win a true majority to our cause, something we have as yet not accomplished in America. Secondly, how does a decentralized movement without a leader, and as yet without even political organizers, create a forum such as you suggest? These are questions that the whole world needs to answer. The truth is, we need all the help we can get, from every corner of the world!

[-] 1 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

OMG yes (ie; obstructionists) in all forms, shapes and sizes.... Sometimes I get really very annoyed with them....but... we'll get through that I'm certain. As to everything else.... check this out to begin with...

Then I would direct you to the link below for unitinghumans. And yes we do need global revolution!

[-] 1 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

Thanks for the links. I'll check them out ASAP. The world must realize that we here in America are really fighting this battle in the belly of the beast. We are up against great odds here. The international corporate elite know full well that the battle will be won or lost in The United States, and they are throwing all they got at us; to oppress and divide us. It is very much an uphill battle here, and we need all the help we can get. Don't look to us for answers, we're just struggling to keep this movement alive.

[-] 1 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

I'm here to help!!!!!

I love your work! I can only hope that this will be enough, and the scenes of the future, on the back of my eyelids, can be changed. I support you, we support you, and I can only hope. Hope WILL get us through. It must. I must believe that.

[-] 1 points by GypsyKing (8708) 12 years ago

Thanks so much for your supportive words. As I say - it's an uphill battle; but in the end, in my heart, I know that the light inherent in mankind will once again be sparked to shine predominate.

[-] 3 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

Yes I have! And I think thats perfect! I really believe that this is the sort of direction that occupy should take, must take, in fact, if any of this is to actually work!

[-] 1 points by BlogMakeover (29) 12 years ago

Yes it is obvious to most who come in contact with it.

[-] 1 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

Are you heavily involved in the project?

Check this out, it may really appeal....

Another global place of discussion...

[-] 1 points by OccupyCentre (263) 12 years ago

@blazefire. This is obviously and American site, but probably the best forum around to meet globally. Every site, including Australia, needs to fight locally. You have ANZ in Melbourne and Westpac in Sydney, both of which have stacks of blood on their hands, and give their bosses massive payouts. I am based in Edinburgh. We have the RBS amongst others to go after. We need to fight our local situation and back others in their fight. Of course, we in Scotland back the fight in Australia. The crackdown on protestors by VIC and NSW police is bad, and no doubt ordered by Gillard, the political leader of Australia.

[-] 1 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

Yes I understand this to be an American site, and probably the best to meet on a global scale....your quite correct! I will state again my belief that we MUST form global alliances, we MUST face the world as a world, and we must do these things soon. 'Local' is clearly defined in your comment as only including the people within the invisible lines that we call the borders of our nations. So what about the people that are living on the border? What about the people over the border? Do they matter? And I think when examining the issue, it could very well be argued that this entire problem stems from the fact that we fail to consider the impacts of our actions, and, the repercussions of them on an international level. "Fight locally", will end up with many fragmented groups, desperately fighting global corporations. "Fighting globally", will end up with a single group, the people, fighting fragmented corporations. One has a chance of success, the other....

And yes the banks here have much blood on their hands, and the government also. And yes just as hard here (re crackdown on protestors) in Aus.... And yes it violates about the same number of laws.

I will re-iterate.... I think this movement is ALREADY global.... it just needs a little gentle reminder to get it all the way!

[-] 1 points by OccupyCentre (263) 12 years ago

Thanks. You are right to remind everyone. The problems we all face, here in Edinburgh, on this forum in NY and there in Melbourne are all the same problems. When talking on this forum, it is the same as our GAs. I think that the fact that many people are getting on this forum from all over the place is proof that we are all together. :)

[-] 1 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

Your so correct. I think that it is time. The world is changing and the time is here, and now. Thanx so much for all your thoughts! It's really good to know that we ARE brothers and sisters, though separated by oceans....we ARE the world, we ARE humanity. It's REALLY good, to hear that from someone else...;)....Thanks again!

[-] 1 points by notaneoliberal (2269) 12 years ago

I think peak oil IS a problem. The lack of awareness just makes it worse.

[-] 2 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

Hmmmm yes, however I would argue, that without the combined efforts of the oil corporations, quashing alternate technologies, and, our own ignorance and insight into the true ramifications of 'peak oil', that, none of the concerns of peak oil, would be a concern....because we would have dealt with what most certainly IS a problem.... Therefore creating a place where that problem would no longer exist. That is the only reason I stated what I did.... But yes the peak gas/oil issue, is probably the single greatest problem facing humanity atm. And our denial, our refusal to face it, is even worse...

[-] 2 points by notaneoliberal (2269) 12 years ago

My point is, that even if awareness becomes wide spread, we probably have already waited too long to avoid dire consequences. It's good to hear from someone who recognizes the problem on this forum. I wonder how many others here, are aware of this issue.

[-] 1 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

Thats plausible, and more than a little concerning. However, we must hope, and we must not lose it. Through unity and solidarity of purpose, 7 billion people.... well, I'm not certain much will stand in our way. Hope. It could be the only thing that will save us. Even worse than remaining ignorant to the extent and implications/ramifications of problems such as peak oil, is losing hope to find a solution. We need to connect, and interconnect. We need to establish organisation and BUILD the future. We need to hope. And we need to do so, as a whole. As humanity. Unified.

[-] 1 points by FalseFlag (121) 12 years ago

The theory is we are all evil and outcompeting each other. Use everything to get on others. Why to bother with dreaming peace and equality. Official economic and social theories are artificially constructed. Human kind is capable of imagining a peaceful world and building one. Global revolution is needed to unite human kind, aka 99% against the 1%, aka manipulating kings and queens.

[-] 1 points by FalseFlag (121) 12 years ago

Yes you are right but history shows that elite eat people like you alive. Declaring that we are human first means there is no dividing and conquering anymore which means we will come together to get rid of tyrants, elite, ruling class..etc. Kings and queens are so because they manipulate, divide people, let peasants kill other peasants.

[-] 2 points by blazefire (947) 12 years ago

Defendit numerus! I would say this is what the occupy movement is all about! The 99%. Yes elite people, kings and queens, and the aristocracy, generally run over pacifists. Sometimes literally. Is that not what these non-violent protests are all about? The fact that that, is the norm?
