The OccupyWallStreet movement should be mobilized to initiate referendums in all states to add the following amendment to the Constitution:
“No person running for elected office can receive any financial or campaign aid from any corporation or representative thereof that does business with or is regulated by the government. Violators will not be allowed to hold office. A corporation is not a person and has no rights except those granted by Congress”
Voters would overwhelmingly approve such an amendment after watching all the negative deceptive attack ads. I would go door to door getting signatures for petitions to put this on the ballet.
Nearly all the problems you folks protest against are caused by wealthy special influence of politicians. To believe that the existing politicians who are owned by corporations will do anything to regulate the corrupting influence of big money just because OccupyWallStreet or MoveOn asks for it is totally delusional.
While most here agree we should get corporate money out of politics, an amendment must be carefully thought out.
Why limit contributions from corporations that do business with the government? Why not all corporations?
A corporation does have a right to speak as any person does. Paying for a TV ad that promotes their product is speech. We should limit their ability to influence elections instead of a complete restriction on their speech.
