According to this site, http://anarchism.pageabode.com/andrewnflood/ireland-majority-refuse-choose-flavour-austerity-referendum , in the recent Irish referendum, which basically asked citizens to vote on austerity measures to ratify the EU bailout, most of the eligible Irish voters refused to vote.
Why?
Because their choices were to rob Peter to pay Paul or to rob Paul to pay Peter. As the authors of the article point out, "The point for us, and for those who didn't vote, was that a No vote would not end austerity and a Yes vote certainly wouldn't deliver stability."
The Irish government had tried to con workers into believing that a Yes vote, insuring the continuation and increase of austerity measures, would stabilize the economy, while a No vote would send the Irish economy into a tailspin.
Obviously, most Irish workers refused to buy the government's pitch and chose to spend their time better on election day.
What will our real choices be, come November?
