A peaceful day today, in Ferguson, for the most part

No shots fired, or tear gas used. The police presence was in the background for the most part, like yesterday.

I did notice, though, that there were instances when police would approach a group of peaceful protesters who were singing or chanting, and try to agitate the protesters with their physical presence and things like pointing strobe lights in the protesters' faces. It was completely uncalled for. But they can't seem to get the rise out of the protesters that they want. After a few moments, the officers would then back off again. It feels very much like a test of sorts.

Only 6 arrests today, 4 of which were people from out of State and 3 of those had been arrested previously.

We have much reason to be proud of Ferguson residents...and they can be very proud of themselves. Once again there were brilliant and poignant interviews from the citizens of Ferguson and others as well, who have traveled there from other States to be there in solidarity.

One resident's interview...a beautiful man...was so gut wrenching, there wasn't a dry eye with anyone, within the short hearing distance, or in the chat room.

There seemed to be at least equal the number of protesters, or slightly more than yesterday, and a few more tense moments than yesterday, but only because police made it that way.

There is a lot of worry about Monday in finding out whether the officer who shot Michael Brown will be charged. We can only hope that justice will prevail for Michael, his family, Ferguson and indeed all who have suffered similar tragedies.

Again, these are just my personal observations. I would encourage everyone to see for themselves.

Any news on the jartastic front?

[-] 4 points by Renneye (3874) 10 years ago

I've not heard back from her yet. That would stand to reason, though. It's only been one day. Even if she has seen it, which is unlikely, given her schedule...she would need to think on it carefully for some time before answering such an idea.

[-] -1 points by DiegoAlbanese (-45) from Miami, FL 10 years ago

I hope you are right.

I leave you with a jartation:

I love poor people. They make my clothes, make my food, clean up after me, etc. Sort of like how a wolf loves sheep. The sheep thinks that the wolf hates him, but that actually isn't true. The wolf loves sheep, because they taste delicious and provide the sustenance that makes the wolf's life possible.

It is you, that has pointed out on this forum, how dangerous it is to use quotes out of context, isn't it?

We can't fully understand what she means by that without knowing the context of her thoughts as she said it.

Although, I do think I know what she meant, but she said it in such a way that it could be easily misconstrued. We'll have to allow her some leeway, as she is young...like you.

[-] 2 points by MattHolck0 (3867) 10 years ago

misrepresentation through selective quoting is easily exposed

in an open immediate information environment

Here, read many of her quotes.

Actually, jart admitted on more than one occasion that she changed her political position. She believes in aristocracy now. She explained in one piece how the GA basically disillusioned her about direct democracy. She no longer believes in democracy, but instead favours a type of meritocracy, an aristocracy, or perhaps a technocracy. This is what led her to create a petition to have Google rule America.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/eric-schmidt/10712822/Make-Googles-Eric-Schmidt-CEO-of-America.html

This is also a very interesting read.

Ya, don't read out of context. For sure. That's why I gave you the link to ask so that you could explore the context by yourself.

Anyhow, it's fine. People change their mind. Their views. No big deal. I'm just explaining that she isn't into this OWS frame of mind anymore. She's pretty much at the opposite spectrum now. Kind of normal after the backlash she got from Occupy. She lost faith in the left. She went to the other side. She'll probably swing back towards the centre when she cools down.

[-] 4 points by Renneye (3874) 10 years ago

I was just razzin' ya.

Right now, I'll only say that the 'Telegraph' isn't taken too seriously, and the rest, well, much of it is your opinion, on what is becoming clear to me as jarts 'abstract' thinking.

I'll read your links tomorrow and maybe comment, as I'm too tired right now. Sleep beckons.

I'm a little disappointed in googles news search on US airstrikes

but understand searches take time

perhaps a focus should taken on following current reports as they appear

yahoo news ran that ISIS is Mexico article as a top story

a possible connections is that

the US supplied criminal organizations in Mexico with weapons

I was putting on my jacket and getting ready to go out and protest when my roommate said - "I'm gonna stay here and watch it on lifestream." I said "livestream?", he replied "I call it lifestream. I'm on it all my life." My roommate's name is Dan. He's unfortunately bedridden.

There ya go - obsessing again - it's gotten so bad that you can't tell when you are dreaming - like just then ( your above comment - in case you need the reference ). Leave me out of your sick fantasies.

[-] -2 points by DiegoAlbanese (-45) from Miami, FL 10 years ago

Dan tried to hit on me many times, he sometimes stalks me, but I never accepted his daily requests for me to spend the night in his bed. To be honest, he stinks. In his bed all day long. He pays the rent, so I tolerate him.

[-] 1 points by DKAtoday (33802) from Coon Rapids, MN 10 years ago

Go see your Dr. and get your meds adjusted - in the meantime try to stay in your comfort zone = under your basement stairs.

[-] -3 points by DiegoAlbanese (-45) from Miami, FL 10 years ago

Dan also wanted to keep me under the basement stairs. He tried to subdue me and have his home nurse lock me up down there. Luckily, I was able to resist. He didn't have much strength and suffered from a variety of illnesses that kept him in bed all day, the worst being chronic laziness.

Well, at this point, I'm peppering this thread with some personal opinion as well, and I tend to look to the positive side of things, lol! So I would urge everyone who wants true reporting to go to the LiveStream and make up their own minds.

http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution

[-] 2 points by eklutna (101) 10 years ago

I'm sure your reporting, even tinged with some editorializing is a helluva lot better than the MSM. I'll be able to sort it out in my mind, I reckon. ;-) Anyhow, I have no time for LiveStream as it is my last week in AK with the grandkiddies.

I did have a conversation about the militarization of our police forces today with an Anchorage policeman who was manning a booth at the Alaska State Fair. It didn't go too well tho...

[-] 6 points by Renneye (3874) 10 years ago

Very peaceful protests in Ferguson tonight. No shots fired, no tear gas, I didn't catch the final number of arrests, but I think it was only one or two. Very little police action, hardly any military-like vehicles.

They have the weirdest press conference at the end of each night. Seem to mention children a lot. Tonight they zoomed in on a package of crayons, colouring book and a small plush toy. Two nights in a row mentioning about how the police had a couple of friendly interactions with kids. On a couple of nights they've used prayer before the press conference. I know what they're doing of course, but, damn it looks so staged and weird.

The protesters were brilliant, once again. Singing, dancing, exchanging info, used flowers to signify peace, talking about 'class issues', race issues, many times it felt very 'Occupy-ish'.

I'm not aware of how any of the other cities fared today. I just know I didn't see any of the MSM mention the 'Day of Rage for support of Ferguson'.

You have the greatest week up there with the grandkiddies, Odin.

Don't worry, your convo with the officer at the fair isn't a waste. Many of the unwoken wake from their slumber in stages, sometimes reacting with violent denial at first. I know that's how my family reacted to me. There is much more acceptance now. You placed a kernel of thought into the guys head and opened the door, even if he doesn't know it yet. Your work out there in the physical world is brilliant!

What is hapening in Ferguson, in particular the militarization of our police departments and their heavy-handed tactics to quell dissent is opening the eyes of many people which is great.

My not so good conversation with the Anchorage police officer was more than made up for with a wonderful convo.. with an old timer named Earl. One of the old barns on the Fair grounds was his Dad's barn when it was their farm. His family moved up here from Wisconsin. Under the New Deal, President Roosevelt sent up a bunch of mid-western farmers to Alsaka, most of whom were Scandivavians. He was of Finnish descent, and he was 8 years old when they moved up to AK in the 30's.

The connection that Earl, another somewhat younger person who was a curator there and was with Occupy in San Francisco, and i made when thinking about the similarities and the big differences between then and now were really neat. Without wanting to elaborate or embelish my conversation and meeting with him, I'll just say that Earl is an Occupier in heart. And is also a big fan of what Roosevelt did to get us out of the Great Depression, so much so that he has visited FDR's summer White House in Warm Springs, GA. and on a side note Renny when visiting Scandinavia, he stayed on a beautiful sailing ship that is moored in Stockholm harbor.

[-] 5 points by Renneye (3874) 10 years ago

Many old timers know what's happening, and for years, given their experience in military, local elite 'clubs', etc., tried to inform generations under them, without much luck. Treated as doddering old fools, instead of the historians they are, with a wealth of information to be educated by, from their textured lives. They must be hopeful now, given that the internet has allowed for many of their historical accounts to become affirmed, as well as, more widely shared.

Indigenous peoples must be especially hopeful.

I love your stories of community, that show how much more connected people are than they realize. Mutual stories that show lives that overlap, both in proximity and experiences.

My dad is Finnish, and you already know of my being from Sweden, and love of the Stockholm Harbor.

Sweden has been a beacon for the world, with social programs to emulate, but they are not immune from problems. In recent years there have been many demonstrations. Race, is unfortunately an issue.

This is from August 23, 2014, in Malmo. I have many relatives there. - http://rt.com/news/182376-sweden-police-neo-nazi/

Yes, Agreed! An awakening in the US is much needed. This could very well be what does it.

The MSM is focusing very heavily on a racial divide...and while race is very much a factor, I hope that the other cities will also take the political stance that many of the very astute people of Ferguson are pointing out. The causes of the bigger reasons for the 'class disparity' in the US, of which African Americans find themselves deeply embroiled in, and historically have paid a heavy toll.

My concern is that CNN and their ilk will portray this to the world as a potential civil war situation based solely on race. BIG problems then.

http://blog.amnestyusa.org/us/tense-night-in-ferguson-update-from-the-amnesty-team/

Only six arrests and no violence yesterday, but they quit the live feed and replaced it with an earlier daytime rerun just as the police were cracking down on a crowd of about 150 people still in the street at about 3am, and press had already been forced to leave. That's very troubling.

Weird.

Cops making deals with the protesters. Like they're playing a game, or something.

Asking the protesters "if we let the arrested activists go, will you stay on the sidewalk?" Also, "If we put our name-tags back on, will you all sit down?"

Protester shouts out, "we won't negotiate with terrorists!" and crowd cheers.

Expect trouble soon - watching the broadcast I have now seen a pretty but suspiciously dark skinned woman with what appears to be artificially straightened hair - walk in a circle in the immediate area - be advised that the suspiciously dark skinned woman with the artificially straightened hair "is" wearing a red dress - alert status is advised.

[-] 5 points by Renneye (3874) 10 years ago

I'd laugh...if it weren't so damn sad that many see people in that view.

The good news is that the people of Ferguson are very astute. There is a much broader discussion again tonight. About justice for ALL, not just African Americans. That the injustice is spreading to all of US and much needs to be done to make things fair for ALL. The slumber, it seems, is lifting.

The psycho cop you mentioned has been relieved of duty.

Suspended - sheesh - well at least he wasn't given a public police force comendation - lol. And they are saying tonight that it may be months before we ever learn whether any charges will be filed against the officer that killed Brown. And people wonder why there is unrest in Ferguson? WhyTF should it take months?

[-] 4 points by Renneye (3874) 10 years ago

"WhyTF should it take months?" I know, eh. Especially careless when they know the populace is on tenterhooks, with raw anger.

Gotta wonder why they would do that. A child could discern that that's a disaster waiting to happen.

[-] 2 points by eklutna (101) 10 years ago

From what I have put together from living in NJ is: Anytime a member of the corrupt elite is charged with a crime that could have an unwanted negative effect on the power structure...then unlike ordinary people...TPTB like to draw the investigation out for months. And they do this in the hopes that people will forget and that the anger will subside. Case in point, Chris Christie, and a whole bunch more more in NJ.

It's only the minions; the elite who have fallen out of favor, and the saps who have to face real justice.

Exactly - things are not gonna get better in that community - with a murderer ( in uniform ) not getting properly charged ( speedily - sorry - in a timely fashion = within days of the killing ) - those assholes have got to know ( assholes - is - including the USA attorney general ) - that stalling action is only gonna further poison the population.

Relative calm, right now.

Lots of strategic posturing by aggressive cops throughout the night on crowds that maintained peaceful talking with each other about solutions, singing, etc.

Don't believe the hype about restless crowds. The people were great tonight.

[-] 0 points by MattHolck0 (3867) 10 years ago

fox 2 news was on that live cast line and they made all sorts of claims about violence after midnight

[-] 4 points by Renneye (3874) 10 years ago

Well, that's fox news for ya. CNN is playing the racial divide indoctrination game. Is it about race? Yes, of course...to a degree. But, when the cameras pan out on the crowds, it is very diverse. Talking about the deeper issues that have led to the racial problems in the first place...like poverty, stigmatizing 'indoctrination', etc.

Here's the relatively calm press conference happening now.

Yep. Two rifles in a car with a couple of guys who had made threats. The weapons were confiscated. Don't know what happened with the guys, though.

Isolated incident.

No-one got shot today during the protests, except the 23 yr old gentleman with the knife earlier tonight. Though cops were aiming their weapons at reporters/press.

Are you the one that used to use the name Renaye? If so, loved your posting on svali. Any news about her?

[-] 3 points by Renneye (3874) 10 years ago

I'm a little rusty, but this may call for some alliteration rebuttal, lol!

[-] -2 points by DiegoAlbanese (-45) from Miami, FL 10 years ago

Are you willing to live for OWS, to die for OWS. If so, we're on the same page.

[-] 3 points by Renneye (3874) 10 years ago

I'm willing to live for humanity. Dying for the cause seems stupid, to me. Blind nobility isn't my thing. But, would I die for my kids? In a heartbeat.

Would you be willing to stay off the forum for good, if it meant the forum could go on and be constructive for humanity?

[-] -2 points by DiegoAlbanese (-45) from Miami, FL 10 years ago

If the forum is clean and usable, it is only because conspiracy theorists and the twinkle team have been slain. The only way humanity can be saved is if I stay on this forum forevermore. I believe I am the missing link. Save the cheerleader, save the world.

Together we can be queen and king and rule this galaxy! We can rule it for the betterment of mankind.

Let us unleash ourselves from the chains of jartocracy and flee into the arms of anarchy. For all should be equal, all should be helping each other.

LiveStream just ended. Only about 20 protesters out now at about 2:15 am... St. Louis time.

Peaceful protests in Ferguson and other supportive cities all day.

Very calm night. Police presence pulled back even further today. They were still there, they just had their vehicles parked further into parking lots and such so as to be less visible.

Fewer protesters tonight...and people dispersed and went home by themselves without cops bothering them to do so.

Brilliant interviews with the people of Ferguson! They know their stuff. MSM can paint this any way they want to, but they can't stop the citizens from seeing the divide and conquer agenda and speaking truth against it. Thank goodness for LiveStreamers!

The broadcast ended with this song from Nina Simone...

Police in #Ferguson have the dogs out again. Covered in riot gear, cars swarming to site of arrest after fight broke out among marchers.

[-] 4 points by Renneye (3874) 10 years ago

Very peaceful sign, Matt.

Don't believe the hype, though. There were no fights among marchers that I could see. These are very savvy and compassionate people, from what I could see.

The protesters were sitting, singing, talking among themselves about solutions for St. Louis and the US as a whole. Conversatons about more than Michael Brown. It felt more like an 'Occupy' protest in many instances.

The cops really did try to provoke the protesters. It was obvious and very strategic looking. But, to no avail. The cops could not rattle the protesters. I'm very proud of humanity at the moment.

Whats incredible is that while I discuss working from within the system, the people that make up this system are all on vacation while the National Guard is deployed on the people they claim to represent.

What pathetic leadership. But I guess they all work just oh so hard and really deserve it.

[-] -3 points by Narley (272) 10 years ago

What a crock. People complaining about the cops show of force and badmouthing the cops. So I say screw it. Pull the cops out and let the thugs burn the town down. If they don’t want the cops there, then the cops should retreat and build a parameter to protect nearby neighborhoods and just let the vandals and gangbangers rampage.

Since the murder of an UN-armed black teenager in Ferguson by a Ferguson police officer - many incidents of police abuse and murder have shown up on the internet.

The internet has shown so many incidences - that it seems that the MSM has had to cover it ( some what ) - as I think the public was wondering where MSM coverage of such things was.

Anyway the following incident actually did make it onto an MSM news broadcast ( imagine that - huh ) -

Indiana man tasered and ripped from car during routine traffic stop

by Jen HaydenFollow

  • though the vid was rather short ( as you can see in the above link ) - the MSM did not show what went on prior to the window being broken - and so was a poor report on what happened.
