Forum Post: Facts About The 1% And Why You're Not In It

A lot of people writing in say they're not part of the 99% that OWS is fighting for. They give these reasons:

1. They work hard (as if 99% of people don't)
2. They've got a job (as if 99% of people didn't)
3. They got ahead because they did the right things (as if 99% of people haven't)
4. They're not lazy (as if 99% of people are)
5. They love their country (as if 99% of people don't)
6. They don't have long hair (as if 99% of people do)

Do they really believe, as they seem to be saying, that they do things better than 99% of the people in this country, so that puts them in the 1%? I don't think so. I think most don't know what the protest is about, and they assume it's about something they don't want.

So here are some questions to help people decide if they're in the 99% or the 1%:

1. Do you want politicians to stop being bought?
2. Do you want everyone to be able to get a job and support themselves?
3. Do you want your income to increase as the years go by?
4. Do you want the news to tell you what's actually happening?
5. Do you want to be able to get ahead without enormous debt?
6. Do you think there's more to life than being a consumer?
7. Do you want your kids to be able to do better than you did?
8. Do you want the world to still be green and blue when your kids are grown?
9. Do you want to have a say in what your government does?
10. Do you want these things to be available to everyone who works for them?

My guess is that 99% of people would say yes to these questions. If you do, then you're one of the 99% and OWS is fighting for YOU.
