Forum Post: Facebook making it seem that Occupy is Anti Military

There are tons of posts being put up on facebook pages that are using our US service members to suggest that Occupy is somehow anti-military. It is massively distracting to the cause and the effect is that people who don't understand what is going on are linking to it. They are believing that since a picture features a service member with an anti occupy tagline, that Occupy is protesting them. This is something that should be addressed. It's way easier to just think that Occupy is anti military than it is to comprehend what is really happening here at home.

smoke and mirrors. Believe nothing the media says. That includes about us, about Tea Party, about candidates. Listen to people in THEIR own words.

I am sorry to hear the anti-ows powers have sunk to this level. But the military is very sensitive to "psy ops". I know our military is occupied by members of the 99.99% and hope they will do the right thing. The richest people in the world cannot fight against the strongest military.

nope but they can control the government that controls the military

I think the military would be ready to act on its own, and these guys would suddenly get very afraid. Hmm.. maybe better to seize their assets before they can crawl into their holes.

No surprise seeing that Zuckerberg is unabashedly a 1%er. The cozy relationship he's fostered with the CIA should show everyone whose side he's really on. I say boycott Facebook.

[-] 1 points by sudoname (1001) from Berkeley, CA 13 years ago

I am slightly afraid of this. FB is the ultimate tool for them. People say FB was stolen from others at Harvard, and all that conspiracy business, etc..

But it's hard to control FB. People will know if FB is deleting posts, censoring, anything, because people are so connected with FB. They will drop FB like a if they ever found out.

I'd say the most FB can do is collect statistics and of course personal details on everyone dumb enough to post personal details of themselves to everyone in the world. Phone numbers, email, passwords all at the mercy of a "disgruntled employee"

I knew when I made that comment that no one would actually boycott it. It's too much a part of so many people's lives nowadays. It was more my personal feelings about it. I saw a couple documentaries on how FB got started, and, frankly, he reminds me too much of Gates. They both started off stealing other people's ideas, stabbing people in the back on their climb to the top, etc. I just hate bullies and thieves, that's all. And the government does indeed use FB and facial recognition software. That's not a conspiracy theory, it's pretty well-documented. I think FB doesn't have to worry too much about a boycott though. It'll never happen.

I was going to end my post with "but nobody would boycott FB" :)

Beyond the obvious identity theft stuff, they have very good access to statistics and subtle things that are shared only with friends. There are a lot of smart people working around FB's physical area in silicon valley and they could probably glean something.

Maybe FB will provide their own undoing by making unwanted interface changes :)

Yeah, FB does have its good points, I have to admit. For one thing, it's connected people like nothing ever has before. A long time ago people used to write letters to keep in touch with friends and family. That became a lost art. FB kind of brought that back and that's a good thing. My problem, I guess, really is with Zuckerman more than FB itself. And I've always been a hardcore nonconformist. If everybody else is doing something, I have a tendency to not. It's in my DNA, I guess. And growing up in the '70's. ;-)

@EMunny and MVSN, While some people there certainly have their own smaller agendas, the reason most people are there has almost nothing to do with our armed forces. That is, aside from the fact that money can buy political power and the politicians help decide how to use our military. I could point to the ex marine that was injured, but I can also point to the Vets with their own camp in DC. Or any of the other groups of vets who are there to try to make changes to help everyone here at home. I come from a military family and it's very frustrating to see people using pictures of our service members and inserting whatever rubbish they want as a caption, knowing that others out there will spread it.

Another damm good reason to abandon facebook, or simply use it to do what needs to be done. It appears that the lack of a quality message by OWS relating to creating the authority to meet demands under law has created a massive vulnerability to misrepresentation.-----

The demands of OWS can only be met by an article 5 convention under the US constitution. Period. The level of authority required to remove individual constitutional rights from corporations is immense. It needs to be done and done right. The level of authority to end the federal reserve and create accountability for the criminal, treasonous manipulations that the financial insitutions have done is also immense.----

I would say it is insane to think that congress will do any of it. Congress created the problems or allowed then to escalate to what we have. A definition of insanity is, "do the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Here are some facts about article 5.

Perhaps, but how many computers are disabled from logging onto facebook? Mine has been for 2 years and there is no money for upgrades.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 13 years ago

never heard of such a thing

People do not realize what the collusion between microsoft, pc manufacturers, the US district court, intelligence agencies in the case, apple vs. microsoft meant to the future of computing. Now. Then, the court let microsoft steal the apple OS. Now all apples before the intel chip, needed to compete with PC manufacturers unfairly, cannot connect to facebook.-----

Yes, it is very important to start dumbing down the internet. Degrade sites to make it so older machines and browsers can load pages. Boycott corporations that have sites that people with older machines cannot use. Otherwise less and less people can use the web as the economy worsens.

[-] 1 points by MattLHolck (16833) from San Diego, CA 13 years ago

why does connecting to Facebook involve computer insides at all ?

connections can be made by simple input through a browser

[-] 0 points by ChristopherABrownART5 (46) from Santa Barbara, CA 13 years ago

People don't realize that collusion between courts, corporations and software producers have made it so that NO working browser can be installed on a 5 year old mac enabling it to logon to facebook. About $2k later I can logon. New machine, OS & browser.------

Intelligence agencies, hard drive manufactures and PC manufacturers have colluded over the last 20 years to eliminate the most secure device and make the lowest quality, least secure device the standard for the people. Beware, do not allow corporate values and perceptions interfere with communications in democracy.

How isn't it anti-military? And before you point to the Oakland "ex-Marine" who was injured during your riot, please remember that he ran a website about hating the Marines.

[-] 1 points by gnomunny (6819) from St Louis, MO 13 years ago

Technically, it was about hating the Marine Corps, not the actual soldiers in it.

[-] 1 points by OQPi (162) 13 years ago

How is it anti-military?

The campaign on Facebook is part of the PROPAGANDA WAR being waged by the Establishment against OWS.

They are waging that war even right here on OWS' own website and instead of reacting vigorously and decisively, OWS is not even enforcing its own official "moderating policies". IMO, that is a big mistake, because it gives an impression of WEAKNESS and LACK OF LEADERSHIP.

WAKIE, WAKIE, people!

You can't possibly expect most people to believe that you leftist/marxists are pro military. Ain't gonna happen.
