I am not sure how many people out there know this, but ex-politicians continue to get paid a pay check after they are out of office and no longer serving an active role in the government. I am not sure how many political positions are given this, but I would say that is bad government spending. I can only venture to guess where that money comes from. So with them continuing to collect a pay check, their 401ks, and their social security, they are doing pretty well for themselves, and that is not to mention any other types of income they have as well.
I say if we reduce government spending then that should go first! Think of how many government officials we have had that are still collecting a pay check, God only knows how much those are and how many years we have had this policy and I think a good chunk of the government spending would be found.
That's what happens when you have the ability to give yourself a raise with someone else's money, while the one with the money is looking the other way.
For sure , and it isn't right. I know my job would not continue to pay me after I have left. Why should we continue to pay them?
Another idea would be to cut all of their salaries down to what a normal middle class person makes such as a teacher or a framer, and we would see who all would jump ship and who would stay, and if the populations pay increases well so does theirs by percentage, that way there is an incentive to do what is right for the country and not just for themselves.
They get a lot of perks out of office. Pretty much serving 5 years( what they are required to collect benefits) is pretty much like "Win for Life" from the Lottery( in my state anyway), except they win more and it doesnt stop after 26 years.
Yea I have no idea how far up the political totem poll you have to be to get these "perks"
Perhaps someone can enlighten me?
It depends. Congress has some really really good perks. my g/f applied to an agency under the DOD that makes maps for the military. The list of perks was quite long plus $60k a year starting. You had to be able to get security clearance though. But for a graphics artist it was a dream job.
It's my understanding it's been going on for a very long time. And those paychecks continue for LIFE. That's got to be a hell of a lot of taxpayer money every year. Must be nice, huh.
