We already know co-opted Tea Party groups like Freedom Works and other Right-Wingers are skulking around, trying to do whatever they can to instigate, or bait you and I to saying or doing something to douse the fire of this movement. They're scared of this movement. Don't expend your energy and focus trying to argue with them. If they post BS like "Let's adopt the Swastika" or anything trying to stereotype or dismiss you and others, just DON'T RESPOND. A POST WITH NO REPLIES IS IMPOTENT. Put your energy where it matters, not on some raging depressive with a lap top and a flag pin.
Totally agree with this. I'm sick and tired of these ultra right-wingers trying to co-opt our movement, but the best way to deal with them is to ignore them
You can throw the troll comments to the bottom where they will never be seen by clicking on the arrows next their comment... Wish we could do the same for the original posts them self. =(
If you're tired of trolls, help get the new forum rolling at http://www.TheMultitude.org .
Help how? Should I just join, or is there some other way I can lend my assistance?
For now we're only asking that people join and participate. If/when it gets the level of participation hoped for, we'll need additional mods though.
kk, see you there.
No offense, but I don't believe any website can prevent trolls. I'll check your forum, but you missed my point. There are going to be trolls, and people trying to derail any cause. You can just not respond to them, instead of letting them get under your skin, and drain you.
Trolls will be banned as a matter of policy at the new forum. With any luck no one will have to talk to them. Additional moderators will be appointed as needed. It won't be like here.
But that poses a dilemma. What I like about OWS is that it has refused to define itself. That may not be the path to effective action, but my understanding was it was to create a common space for diverse individuals of the 99% to interact. SO by restricting too much, this "new forum" begins to change into something different - not necessarily bad, but definitely something that is defining the discourse, and potentially the direction of the discussion and problem solving. Rules can be effective in keeping constructive dialogue, but it's also how the FOX News forum deletes anything it doesn't want present.
True enough, if we were aiming to prevent opposers of the movement from posting -- but we're not. Opposition is welcome.
A troll is someone who deliberately seeks to provoke animosity, either for fun or to sabotage. It's not someone who disagrees. We're banning the trolls, but opposers can post, so long as it's done in the form of civilized, constructive debate.
I am using a tablet and wearing flag boxers. Don't judge me.
